**Hello anime fans.** Tonight I want to share with you an anime that was very popular this year both for its unique plot in its style and also for its excellent animation made by one of the best studios today. This is an anime that mixes the action genre with history, for those who are fans of Japanese culture and history, inspired by one of the strongest eras of ancient **Japan**, with characters and a somewhat particular protagonist. Known as "*the elusive hero*", this work recommended by few and forgotten by many, is one of the best anime I have seen on broadcast this year. ### Plot
This anime begins in a time of ancient feudal **Japan**, ending the **Kamakura period** with the fall of the **Kamakura family** shogunate and the massacre of the **Hōjō clan** at the hands of **Takauji Ashikaga**'s traitor. Only one descended member of the clan survives and is forced to flee for his life. This is **Tokiyuki Hōjō**, who is a young man adept at fleeing and escaping for his life, as well as having had a very comfortable childhood and life, prior to the catastrophe. Now, with a coup d'état and a country at war between various sides, our young protagonist will have to gather a small army of expert and skilled warriors to fulfill his revenge and finish off the dangerous enemy who murdered his entire family. However, he does not possess any combat skills, only his ability to escape, which he will have to learn to use during the war.

For being such an overrated **Shōnen** with a very interesting premise and animation, I admit that it is one of those anime that fulfill with giving us a story a little far from the real one and more illustrated for fans and lovers of fights and the culture of **Japan** in its feudal era where samurai and wars abounded. However, it is interesting that we are introduced from the beginning to a protagonist very different from the one we are used to seeing in this type of anime of action and history. It is not like "[***Rurouni Kenshin***](https://peakd.com/hive-158489/@nattosenpai/rurouni-kenshin-2023-or-nattosheru-review-engspa)", where we can meet a swordsman with a strength and skills that are above anyone, but in this case we are talking about a "*slippery samurai*", that is, a "*hero*" who is an expert in fleeing for his life. Yes, it is very strange and from now on you will surely wonder if this protagonist is a coward or something like that, things that I do not deny or affirm either. But well, that's the detail, that's what changes this whole perspective of what we see in this anime, being the story of a future ruler who started out as a survivor and an expert in running away and escaping from trouble. Clearly, he is not the typical protagonist of this action genre that we know, but one very different and peculiar to the rest.

Sin embargo, sí es interesante que nos presentan desde un principio a un protagonista muy diferente al que acostumbramos ver en este tipo de animes de acción e historia. No es como “[***Rurouni Kenshin***](https://peakd.com/hive-158489/@nattosenpai/rurouni-kenshin-2023-or-nattosheru-review-engspa)”, donde podemos a conocer a un espadachín con una fuerza y habilidades que están por encima de cualquiera, sino que en este caso estamos hablando de un “*samurai escurridizo*”, es decir, un “*héroe*” que es experto en huir por su vida. Si, es muy extraño y desde ahora seguramente te preguntarás si este protagonista es un cobarde o algo por el estilo, cosas que no niego ni afirmo tampoco. Pero bueno, ese es el detalle, es lo que cambia toda esta perspectiva de lo que vemos en este anime, siendo la historia de un futuro gobernante que empezó siendo un superviviente y experto en huir y escapar de los problemas. Claramente, no es el típico protagonista de este género de acción que conocemos, sino uno muy diferente y peculiar al resto.

Let's start talking about the story we are told in this anime, which from the beginning introduces us to one of the strongest and darkest times of ancient **Japan**, with the beginning of a coup d'état and a revolution that led a warrior to betray one of the most powerful clans of the empire, nothing less than the shogunate. But, before all this, we are already introduced to **Tokiyuki Hōjō**, who is the rightful heir to the Hōjō clan and is expected to become a great ruler and warrior. However, this one instead of fighting, he prefers a thousand times to run away, thus spending much of his time escaping and running away from his responsibilities and labors. His full and joyful life suddenly turns to hell when he is betrayed by one of the shogun's supposedly close companions, a warrior who is distinguished by his dazzling smile and manner, his excellent swordsmanship and being a complete monster at war. He suddenly becomes the leader of an entire revolution that seeks to overthrow the empire and rule **Japan**. Our young protagonist experiences for the first time what is a betrayal in the flesh, seeing how his whole family is massacred and all his companions betray him, except for a priest who shortly before all this has appeared to care for and guide our future elusive hero.
I already want to mention how strong this anime can be, with moments and scenarios obviously very explicit and bloody, although the animation style and the color palette it has tries not to show this at all. From the first episode it is normal that after several minutes of what is an apparently calm introduction, we see how everything turns into a scenario of horror and death worthy of a war and human cruelty itself. After this, it is normal for anyone to get completely hooked on this anime, then getting to know our protagonist, how he manages to survive and escape to then start preparing his future revenge. However, all this progresses and happens thanks to the guidance and support he has from the priest we mentioned before called **Suwa Yorisige**, who presents himself as someone extravagant, too fanatical and cheerful, besides claiming to have certain powers to see the future and the like. But, taking away this strange personality he has, Suwa manages to protect the protagonist and guide him, as well as teach him how to use his abilities to flee in combat and gives him the opportunity to make his own team of skilled and talented young men to fight the enemy and thus get his revenge.

Pero, antes de todo esto, ya nos presentan a **Tokiyuki Hōjō**, quien es el heredero legítimo del clan Hōjō y que se espera se convierta en un gran gobernador y guerrero. Sin embargo, este en vez de pelear, prefiere mil veces huir, pasando así gran parte de su tiempo escapando y huyendo de sus responsabilidades y labores. Su vida plena y alegre de repente se convierte en un infierno cuando es traicionado por uno de los supuestos compañeros y cercanos del shogun, un guerrero que es distinguido por su deslumbrante sonrisa y forma de ser, además su excelente habilidad con la espada y ser un completo monstruo en la guerra. Este de repente se convierte en el líder de toda una revolución que busca acabar con el imperio y gobernar **Japón**. Nuestro joven protagonista experimenta por primera vez lo que es una traición en carne propia, viendo cómo toda su familia es masacrada y todos sus compañeros le traicionan, a excepción de un sacerdote que poco antes de todo esto ha aparecido para cuidar y guiar a nuestro futuro héroe elusivo.

> Desde ya quiero mencionar lo fuerte que puede llegar a ser este anime, con momentos y escenarios evidentemente muy explícitos y sangrientos, aunque el estilo de animación y la paleta de colores que tiene intenta no mostrarnos esto del todo. Desde el primer episodio es normal que luego de varios minutos de lo que es una aparentemente tranquila introducción, vemos cómo todo se convierte en un escenario de horror y muerte digno de una guerra y de la crueldad humana misma. Luego de esto, es normal que cualquiera se enganche por completo con este anime, conociendo luego a nuestro protagonista, cómo este logra sobrevivir y escapar para luego empezar a preparar su futura venganza. Sin embargo, todo esto avanza y sucede gracias a la guía y el apoyo que este tiene por parte del sacerdote que ya mencionamos antes llamado **Suwa Yorisige**, quien se presenta como alguien extravagante, demasiado fanático y alegre, además de afirmar tener ciertos poderes de ver el futuro y cosas por el estilo. Pero, quitando esta extraña personalidad que tiene, Suwa consigue proteger al protagonista y guiarlo, además de enseñarle a cómo usar sus habilidades para huir en el combate y le da la oportunidad de hacer su propio equipo de jóvenes hábiles y talentosos para combatir al enemigo y así conseguir su venganza.

Like all western viewers, I don't know at all the history and influence that **Tokiyuki Hōjō** and his character have in **Japan**, but for being one of those works that interpret that ancient side of the famous country of the rising sun, this anime is not bad at all. Of course, in this case, I don't feel that any of the characters that are introduced to us are so appealing to me that I become a fan or anything like that. I am surprised by how they introduce and develop some characters, mostly antagonists, because of their peculiar way of being and their abilities (well, most of the characters in this anime are very peculiar in many ways). But, what really catches my attention, apart from the visuals, are the combination of humor with action and drama that the anime has. It is true that it starts a bit/very strong, but otherwise we see mostly battle scenarios and moments somewhat epic and taken from a **Hollywood** movie. The way each character is and how the war brings them together and molds them into a team is also something that stands out. Themes such as betrayal, freedom, human evil and cruelty, as well as the social influence of the so-called "*heroes of the homeland*" are also things we see in this work.
Let's talk now about **Takauji Ashikaga** who is, without a doubt, the enigma of this anime. Presented from the beginning as a friend and a hero both for our protagonist and for the rest of **Japan**, he decides to reveal himself and wipe out an entire royal family, causing a coup d'état and leading the country to one of its worst times in history. In the eyes of the world, he is a liberator, like many names that will surely cross our minds right now, but for our protagonists he is an enemy, a monster, a threat. Causing massacres, wiping out everything that gets in his way and demonstrating a level of evil that is unmatched, this character is one of the best antagonists I've met so far. His short appearance of several minutes in a few episodes is more than enough to turn this apparent **Shōnen** for kids into a work of pure psychological horror and gore. On the other hand, I don't have much to say neither about the protagonist, nor less about his companions and close friends. Only highlight that, as I said at the beginning, it is curious and interesting to see how they paint us a "*hero*" who is actually a person who likes to run away, because yes, he does it because he likes it, which is rare in itself (so no, he is not a coward, well, in the beginning yes). So it is normal that this interest is maintained until we see how this character evolves throughout the work to become what is now known historically.

> Como todo espectador occidental, no conozco en lo absoluto la historia e influencia que tiene el nombre de **Tokiyuki Hōjō** y su personaje en **Japón**, pero para ser de esas obras que interpretan ese lado antiguo del famoso país del sol naciente, no está nada mal este anime. Claro está, en este caso no siento que ninguno de los personajes que nos presentan lleguen a llamarme tanto la atención como para volverme fanático ni nada por el estilo. Sí me sorprende mucho cómo introducen y desarrollan a algunos personajes, mayormente antagonistas, por su forma peculiar de ser y sus habilidades que tienen (bueno, la mayoría de los personajes de este anime son muy peculiares en varios sentidos). Pero, lo que sí me llama la atención, aparte de lo visual, son la combinación de humor con acción y drama que tiene el anime. Si es cierto que empieza un tanto/muy fuerte, pero de resto vemos mayormente escenarios de batallas y momentos un tanto épicos y sacados de una película de **Hollywood**. La forma de ser de cada personaje y cómo la guerra los une y los moldea para luego convertirse en un equipo es también algo que llama la atención. Los temas como la traición, la libertad, la maldad y crueldad humana, además de la influencia social de los llamados “*héroes de la patria*” son también cosas que vemos en esta obra.
