Kawaii Friends

I created this digital mixed media artwork titled Kawaii Friends. I really enjoyed making it because these are my favourite animal friends. I used photos, digital images, and digital drawing, and then digitally processed everything at the end.

In the middle of the artwork is my dog, Dude. I took this photo of him by the blueberry bush. His face is asking me for a blueberry, who could ignore this “please” face? Not me!

Then there’s my favourite blue jay, who lives on our property. His name is Blue Jay-kun. He decided to stay here and has found many favourite spots. The grapevine pole, the fence, the shed roof, the wood shed roof, the old tree stump, and more. In my vision, he might even land on Dude’s head someday, or on my arm, or even on my head. I’ve never seen a blue jay sit like this before, but he really does. One of his favourite spots is next to our bedroom window, on top of a fence post that has a round spot. He brings berries there, and I call it his “dinner table.” Every time he leaves, I find leftover berries.

I chose to use this type of background instead of a real photo. I added blackberries, blueberries, apples, and grapes, because they both love all of them. On my property, there are wild berries, blueberries, apples, and grapes almost everywhere. Since I can’t eat them all myself, I’m happy to share them.

I think Blue Jay-kun shares the spirit of my old parakeet, whom I used to have. He was a beautiful bluebird named Pii-chan, and I feel as though his spirit is visiting me somehow.

I hope Blue Jay-kun will stay as long as he and his family can. And of course, I look forward to his return whenever they come back to our land.

かわいい友だち

「かわいい友だち」というタイトルのミクストメディア・デジタルアートを作成しました。わたしの大好きな動物をモチーフにしたので、とても楽しい時間でした。写真、デジタル画像を加え、デジタル手書き、そして全体的にデジタル加工を施しました。

真ん中にいるのはわたしの愛犬デュードです。ブルーベリーの木のところで撮った写真を使用しました。この顔はブルーベリー「ちょうだい？」の顔です。こんな顔で凝視されると、無視はできません。

そして、家の庭に住んでいる大好きな青カケスです。名前はブルージェイくん。彼はこの土地に住むことを決め、あらゆるところにお気に入りのスポットをキープしています。たとえば、ブドウのツルが巻きついている木の棒、フェンスの上、物置の屋根の上、薪小屋の屋根の上、古い切り株の上、などなど。わたしの妄想の中では、ブルージェイくんはいつかデュードくんの頭の上にとまって欲しいです。もしくは、わたしの腕か頭でもいいです。こんなふうに文字通り座っている青カケスを見たことがありません。いちばん好きな場所は、寝室の横のフェンスの上だと思います。フェンスの柵が部分的に丸くなっている部分があるのですが、その上に座ってよくベリーを食べています。「ディナーテーブル」と呼んでいます。ブルージェイくんが飛び立った後をみると、必ずベリーの残り物が落ちています。

背景には本物の自然の写真を使わずに、あえてこういう感じの背景にしました。ブラックベリー、ブルーベリー、りんご、ぶどうなどの画像を加えました。家の敷地内にはいたるところにブルーベリー、ぶどう、野いちご、りんごが生えています。一人では到底食べきれないので、みんなで共有するのがいいです。

ブルージェイくんはなんとなく昔飼っていたインコのピーちゃんの魂が少し入っているような気がします。ピーちゃんはとてもきれいな青い鳥でした。ブルージェイくんを通してピーちゃんがわたしのところにやってきてくれたのでよう。

ブルージェイくんは、家族と一緒に好きなだけここにいてくれればいいなと思います。渡りに出かけても、また戻ってくる時はここにやってきてほしいです。
