Hello everyone. By chance one year I spent three months in Malta. If I tell you the reason, it will be humorous, so I'd better skip it. I had enough time to get to know all of Malta.Today I will write to you about my visit to the city of Birgu. When I arrived in Burgas, I got off the ferry that connects Valletta with the Three Cities of Birgu, Senglea and Cospicua and headed towards the old city gate. In front of me were the stone walls that enclose this part of the island, once important for the defense of Malta. I passed through the gate and entered the streets that intersect at right angles, each leading to the sea or the fortress. 3a9423b6-f47a-41c8-acc1-dfdebabe2d37.jpeg 558975565_4035596506691012_4382254156727195903_n.jpg First I headed towards the Church of St. Lawrence, the main church in Burga. It is located on the site where the Knights of Malta had their first church before they built Valletta. I went inside and saw the altar, vaults and several paintings depicting events from the 16th century. In front of the church is a square with several benches, I stopped there and looked towards the sea where you can see the ships anchored in the Grand Harbour. 559465431_4035597540024242_7590039803914143767_n.jpg 558960519_4035597546690908_6775573578316481603_n.jpg 558986923_4035596456691017_4441667766863053179_n.jpg 560552253_4035598993357430_931200031729020600_n.jpg 559021494_4035597290024267_1887225648782109524_n.jpg I then continued to the Inquisitor's Palace, a building from when the Inquisitors had their headquarters in Malta. Inside you can see the rooms where they lived and worked, prison cells, a kitchen, a chapel and an exhibition about everyday life in that period. I went around the corridors and staircases, there are inscriptions and old photos everywhere. The next place I visited was Fort St. Angelo, the main fortress of Burge. The road leads uphill to the entrance, and the view from the walls extends over the entire Grand Harbour. The fortress has several levels.vratio sam se u centar Burge, u ulicu Triq Hilda Tabone, Ceramic, silver and glass items are sold there. 559008652_4035597380024258_907837773261647225_n.jpg 560181097_4035597470024249_2296911093342987688_n.jpg 558130846_4035597020024294_4848781132456047159_n.jpg 558111701_4035597136690949_3049524138780142034_n.jpg 560189926_4035597586690904_1902962768710429226_n.jpg 559234560_4035596956690967_4366782553303770840_n.jpg 560167395_4035598556690807_4282635042057259184_n.jpg 561080366_4035598266690836_4797295899831660862_n.jpg 558942418_4035596880024308_2141395936587008962_n.jpg 558650378_4035598616690801_8755070173107928356_n.jpg 558523546_4035596640024332_5843733739168187313_n.jpg 559533427_4035598526690810_8748676939016801050_n.jpg 559314710_4035596526691010_3258764283549749484_n.jpg Before it got dark, I climbed once more to the upper parts of the city to see the panorama. From the lookout point near the fortress you can see the entire Grand Harbour, all the docks and islands around Malta. The wind blows from the sea, and the lights come on along the shore. On the way back, I passed through narrow streets with stone-paved steps, between houses with old doors and numbers carved into the walls. 558946982_4035598120024184_3001447194943285819_n.jpg 558319996_4035597660024230_4234953233315418380_n.jpg We stayed until evening because every year in mid-October in the old fortress of Birgu (Vittoriosa), a two-day cultural event Birgufest is held. The most interesting part of this festival is certainly the "Birgy by Candlelight" event. Then the streets, stairs and passageways are extinguished and provide an ambiance with over a thousand candles that light up the city. 564005709_4038725819711414_8242105971510383815_n.jpg 561535789_4038725723044757_8493005945703195217_n.jpg 559023590_4038725403044789_2909859778282854487_n.jpg 562383343_4038725139711482_8548288957070255047_n.jpg 565670908_4038725903044739_9151234485192261222_n.jpg 559420686_4038726199711376_5741548142765077384_n.jpg 559046206_4038726036378059_7872921789014601900_n (1).jpg Thank you for reading my post.
