Hello friends of hotspot Italy, in this article I would like to introduce you to a village, probably little known in the world, located on Lake Garda on the Brescia shore.
I plan to do several articles of this kind, precisely to make people around the world aware of more hidden corners of Italy that are nevertheless worth visiting.
I have been there several times on holiday, and from my point of view, the highlight of this village is definitely its beautiful Lungolago promenade, where you can admire the beautiful palaces and monuments.
Certainly one of the monuments that will strike you almost immediately, on the lakefront, is the palazzo del Podestà also known as the palazzo del Capitano, you will be impressed by its magnificent portico making it truly unique, in fact it is one of the most photographed points of interest in Salò.
Today it is the seat of the municipality of Salò, but in the 1400s it housed the council of the magnificent patria, a group of municipalities in the Garda area that tried to work together to defend themselves from the barbarian invasions coming from the north.
This is Salò's main square, where you will find numerous restaurants and bars, where you can have a great aperitif, but also numerous ice-cream parlours where you are sure to enjoy a delicious ice cream.
In this photo you can see Salò with its harbour and where every year many tourists bring their boats to tour the lake.
Another point of interest not to be missed on a visit to the city of Salò is certainly its Duomo, or rather its cathedral, which is reflected in the lake and which externally may seem very sober, due to the fact that it was built with simplicity, but it is inside that the real surprise is to be found because there are beautiful paintings, and a beautiful crucifix to photograph, that will leave you speechless.
This church is practically dedicated to Santa Maria Annunziata and is one of the most important churches in Salò was built practically in 1400.
In 1974, this church was considered a National Museum for its paintings, which are contained within, but especially for the beautiful crucifix that was commissioned by the municipality of Salò in 1449 and is carved in wood.
