In the future, I'll be sharing a lot about the city of Old Bagan. While access to this city was once accessible, it's now restricted due to the government's greed for its people. Shhh... I am just here to share my great experience in Old Bagan, which not everyone can experience due to the tourist restrictions.
To be honest, I have a little afraid to visit this place at first. I prayed almost every day to be able to enter this city. A UNESCO YouTube video only piqued my interest and added Old Bagan to my must-visit list. Finally, in early 2025, I was able to set foot here, despite transiting through several countries to ensure easy entry.
My first morning was greeted with visits to several temples. Unfortunately, that morning I was chasing my first sunrise in Old Bagan and seeing the smaller, lesser-known temples. But, trust me, it was a must. I looked for temples that could still be climbed to the second floor but in the end we found a small temple that seemed to belong to previous kings.
According to a board in front, this is a work of art from the 13th century AD which once had a gold dome. However, it has now been restored in 2000 and completed in 2012 using old methods by the Myanmar government and ministries. This temple is approximately 4.5 meters high and is said to have a golden dome which is 1.5 meters from the top of this temple. But, I didn't see it at all.
On the inside of the temple there is a Buddha statue with 4 sides which all connect to one point. The shape is the same and in the same position. The statue is terracotta and white, from the color of the paint it is clear that this temple is often used for worship. It appears to be very well looked after in terms of cleanliness and also not fenced in at all.
In one temple area there are 2 main temples and 2 stupas. The distance is not as far as the distance between houses. The temple was very empty when we visited, which was unfortunate, as it was only 7:00 a.m. Unfortunately, we couldn't ask anyone here despite our language barrier. We left the temple and capture the moment with a photo with the Buddha statue.
I'll continue exploring the temples in Old Bagan, with fascinating details, of course.
