The guys convinced me, I have stepped out of my comfort zone and have continued to venture a little further from home to see more places in El Avila, the imposing mountain that rises north of Caracas. For many this could be a routine place, but for me it was the first time and a unique and unrepeatable experience. These are pictures I took on my hiking trip to Sabas Nieves, a beautiful flowery hill with dreamy views at only 1300 meters of travel, but wow, so far it has been one of the most impressive routes in my few months of hiking.
Los chicos me convencieron, he salido de mi zona de confort y me he seguido aventurando un poco más lejos de casa para conocer más lugares en El Ávila, la imponente montaña que se levanta al norte de Caracas. Para muchos este podría ser un lugar rutinario, pero para mí fue la primera vez y una experiencia única e irrepetible. Estas son fotografías que tomé en mi viaje a pie hasta Sabas Nieves, una hermosa loma florida y con vistas de ensueño a solo 1300 metros de recorrido, pero vaya que hasta el momento ha sido una de las rutas más impresionantes en mis pocos meses en el senderismo.
I usually use the San Bernardino Trail, it is a more comfortable way for me, following the road that takes me up to Cortafuegos, and a little further up, I have even already reached the top of that side, but I have decided to be more daring, I already have some training; I say daring because my companions are a gym trainer named Douglas and a native monkey from Caracas that I call Leonardo, who knows every corner of El Avila. But both have helped me on this trip, one for his great knowledge of the areas and the other to help me with the stamina to make it. Generally you will see them in front of me in these photographs 🤣
Generalmente uso el Sendero de San Bernardino, es un camino más cómodo para mí, siguiendo la carretera que me lleva hasta Cortafuegos, y un poco más arriba, incluso ya he llegado a la cima de ese lado, pero he decidido ser más osado, ya tengo algo de entrenamiento; digo osado porque mis acompañantes son un entrenador de gimnasio llamado Douglas y un mono nativo de Caracas al que llamo Leonardo, quien conoce cada rincón de El Ávila. Pero ambos me han ayudado en este viaje, uno por su gran conocimiento de las zonas y el otro para ayudarme con la resistencia para lograrlo. Generalmente los verán delante de mí en estas fotografías 🤣
At the beginning the road looks very nice. There are many plains and it is very lush. Unlike the trail I usually go up, here there is security and many park rangers really taking care of everything that happens along the way. But between pictures the trail started to change and get more complex between ditches and rocks. I am talking about adrenaline, even at the beginning I doubted if I would continue and after several bends in the road came the moment when the unimaginable happened, I stopped taking pictures for a long way. I could not stay behind and I had to concentrate on the goal.
Al inicio el camino luce muy amable. Hay muchas planicies y es muy frondoso. A diferencia del sendero por el que generalmente subo, aquí hay seguridad y muchos guarda parques cuidando realmente todo lo que ocurre en el trayecto. Pero entre fotografía y fotografía el camino comenzó a cambiar y a ponerse más complejo entre zanjas y rocas. Les estoy hablando de adrenalina, incluso al inicio dude si continuaría y luego de varias curvas en el camino llego el momento en que pasó lo inimaginable, dejé de tomar fotografías en un largo trayecto. No podía quedarme atrás y tenía que concentrarme en la meta.
We finally arrived at Sabas Nieves, and all the effort was worth it. I have seen many special places on different roads in El Ávila, but this place was very special. Plenty of place to rest, to see the city from above, the eastern peak hidden behind the mist, and lots of yellow and red flowers. Honestly I felt very good, very fresh and I forgot the tiredness of the climb. The boys and I took the opportunity to tell a few stories about the rehearsal we had that day in the choir while we hydrated ourselves and gathered strength for the return trip. I will definitely return to this area and maybe it will become my new favorite trail, although there is still much to discover...
Finalmente llegamos a Sabas Nieves, y todo el esfuerzo valió la pena. He visto muchos lugares especiales en diferentes caminos de El Ávila, pero este espacio era muy especial. Mucho lugar para descansar, ver la ciudad desde lo alto, el pico oriental escondido tras la neblina, y muchas flores amarillas y rojas. Sinceramente me sentí muy bien, muy fresco y olvidé el cansancio de la subida. Los muchachos y yo aprovechamos de echar algunos cuentos sobre el ensayo que tuvimos ese día en el coro mientras nos hidratábamos y agarrábamos fuerza para el regreso. Definitivamente volveré a esta zona y quizás se convierta en mi nuevo sendero preferido, aunque hay mucho por descubrir aún...
The return was Heavy Metal! There can't be any false steps and even though I didn't want to, I had to go down very fast, I don't think I've ever jumped so much in my life, but the experience was wonderful. This little trip was good for me to train my body and to clear my mind. I remember that we started climbing at five o'clock in the afternoon, so as we descended it was getting dark, but it was almost always light. That was good, I can't imagine walking here at night yet, I don't know if I would risk it in the future. Definitely a dream trip with good company and good views, I hope to come back soon and introduce Sabas Nieves to my wife ❤️
¡El regreso fue Heavy Metal!. No puede haber pisadas en falso y aunque no lo quiera me tocaba bajar muy rápido, creo que nunca salté tanto en mi vida, pero la experiencia fue maravillosa. Este pequeño viaje me sirvió para entrenar el cuerpo y para despejar la mente. Recuerdo que comenzamos a subir a las cinco de la tarde, así que mientras bajamos se fue haciendo de noche, pero casi siempre hubo luz. Eso fue bueno, no imagino caminar aquí en la noche aún, no sé si me arriesgue en el futuro. Definitivamente un viaje de ensueño con buena compañía y buenas vistas, espero volver pronto y presentarle Sabas Nieves a mi esposa ❤️
