As a good nature lover, a few years ago with my husband I made a tour of my beloved Merida. It is a Venezuelan state located in the Andes Mountains. Known for its great mountains, Spanish colonial architecture and spectacular national parks such as Sierra Nevada and Sierra de la Culata, where you can spend pleasant moments, release stress, drink coffee, hot chocolate and the typical calenta'o (alcoholic drink based on spices, aguardiente and papelón).

La capital de Mérida que también lleva el mismo nombre, es conocida por sus numerosos estudiantes, especialmente por la Universidad de Los Andes (ULA). Cabe destacar que su gente es amable y cordial. En todos los pueblos aledaños así como en la capital, encontrarás infinidad de posadas para todos los bolsillos y con una atención excelente. La gastronomía, ni hablar, quedarás encantado con sus platos típicos como la trucha, el mondongo, arepa andina, vino de mora, las cachapas de cochino, queso ahumado, chicha andida, agua miel entre otros.

Al llegar al parque Sierra Nevada podrás encontrar hermosos frailejones su ecosistema es montañoso y frío en algunas temporadas del año cae nieve. El paisaje es tan hermoso que no pararas de tomarte fotos en la laguna Mucubají. Esta laguna es de origen glacial y tiene unos diez mil años de antigüedad. Su color azul hace contraste con el cielo y el verde de las montañas es todo un espectáculo cuando el día está soleado.
Arriving at the Sierra Nevada park you will find beautiful frailejones, its ecosystem is mountainous and cold in some seasons of the year snow falls. The scenery is so beautiful that you will not stop taking pictures at the Mucubají Lagoon. This lagoon is of glacial origin and is about ten thousand years old. Ni hablar del Páramo de la Culata que se encuentra a pocos minutos de la ciudad de Mérida desde que llegas a este lugar te encuentras con restaurantes para disfrutar la comida típica, hermosos paisajes donde puedes hacer una caminata o simplemente un paseo a caballo. También puedes divertirte lanzándote de una tirolina de un extremo al otro. Para los que les gusta la adrenalina lo pueden hacer.
Not to mention the Páramo de la Culata which is located a few minutes from the city of Mérida, from the moment you arrive to this place you will find restaurants to enjoy the typical food, beautiful landscapes where you can go for a hike or just a horseback ride. You can also have fun jumping from one end of a zip line to the other. For those who like adrenaline you can do it.

Debes llevar abrigo aunque en la ciudad esté soleado. Nunca se sabe cuando la temperatura baje tanto que llegue a nevar.

Si vas con niños lleva refrigerios para el camino.

No te apresures a caminar por el páramo porque te da mareos ya que te encuentras a grandes alturas y el oxígeno es muy poco.

Cuando te sirvan algo caliente no beberlo de una vez. Deja enfriar un poco ya que por el frío no sientes lo caliente y puedes quemarte la garganta y la boca.

You should bring a coat even if it is sunny in the city. You never know when the temperature will drop so low that it will snow.
If you go with children take snacks for the road.
Do not rush to walk through the moor because it makes you dizzy since you are at high altitudes and oxygen is very little.
When you are served something hot, do not drink it all at once. Let it cool down a little bit because you don't feel the hot because of the cold and you can burn your throat and mouth.
