Before heading back home, my husband decided to stop in Košice City. It's just a 1.5 to 2 hours drive and he wants us to see the beautiful city. We were not rushing straight home and were enjoying our vacation days before going back to work.
His plan was to let us see the beautiful city even for hours and have our meal. Driving from Levoča to Košice was smooth. The drive was beautiful, we enjoyed the scenic drive with hills and peaceful Slovakian countryside.
When we got to Košice, the atmosphere shifted and instantly we felt vibrant and full of energy. From its centuries old cathedrals to vibrant, modern cafes, cozy restaurants create a truly unique atmosphere.
We strolled land led us to a charming old town square, where cobblestone streets led me to this simple but elegant church- Calvinist Church (Kalvínsky kostol). And its warm and earthy orange façade stood out against the bright blue sky. Its tall pointed tower seems high into the sky. This old-fashioned lamppost caught my eye and stood proudly near the church. And I asked my daughter if I will take her photo.
Near a beautiful church, there are cozy coffee shops and restaurants that line the street. People enjoying their meal, chatting together and soaking in the city’s atmosphere .
The moment we first saw St. Elisabeth's Cathedral in Košice and our eyes were instantly drawn in wonder. So impossible you not be impressed by the church? Gothic elegance carved in stone and every angle is a masterpiece.

Another stunning architectural design that we were completely captivated and the city can be proud of. It's the beauty of St. Michael's Chapel, While everyone is drawn, St. Elisabeth's Cathedral is the city's main attraction. Dating back to the 14th century, the small Chapel of St. Michael is the city’s second oldest building. Originally, it once served as a cemetery chapel. Its Gothic charm, unique details and timeless beauty remains a treasured piece of the city’s heritage.
We passed by the famous Singing Fountain charmed us once again with its magic. The water was sparkling and Aya absolutely loved it. Aya loves water and I can't blame her if she wants to play. It's really a fun spot with splashing of water and the color lighting of the fountain in sync with the music. But I feel sad for Aya because there's a beautiful light show at night. We're sad to miss it and it's just a day trip in the city. For sure we'll be back one day to experience the famous Singing Fountain.
Right beside the fountain there is the magnificent State Theatre Košice. he State Theatre Košice has its grand design, its impressive clock tower and is right beside the fountain. With that beautiful dome and intricate details it is truly stunning.
After all that walking we decided it was time to eat. We found a lovely spot just soaking in the atmosphere of Košice named Modena Pizzeria Modena. The atmosphere was so calm and inviting in the hidden courtyard. Tucked away from the main streets and it was the perfect way to recharge for our delicious meal.
After our meal, it's time to go home. But we stumbled upon this incredible building and Aya says its castle mama. Yes, it looks like a fairytale castle and was completely captivating. And it's not a castle, it's the Jakab's Palace.
Its unique green roof and intricate details on the spires is an absolute gem. Jakab's Palace is a neo-Gothic building and on the road to the main bus and train stations where our car was parked. This was a masterpiece in person designed by Peter Jakan.
This place we will never forget, for a few hours we explore Košice City. It makes us feel like we've stumbled upon a real centerpiece and the fountain is a playful yet elegant symbol of Košice’s culture.
