This fort was built in the 18th century to protect the bay's entrance from pirate attacks. The castle still preserves its imposing parade ground, flanked by cannons pointing toward the horizon as if still guarding the city. From its viewing platforms, where lookouts once stood, one can enjoy one of the most serene and majestic views. Being a pocket bay, the water is always calm. You can see the ships, the fishermen's boats, slowly crossing it, and at the other end, the Pasacaballos Hotel can be seen. From another angle, you can see Cayo Carena, a small key located in the center of the bay. I've never visited it, but it's something I plan to do.
