Welcome to BORDEAUX city ~ Come along and explore with me the grand Place de la Bourse, the Miroir d’Eau - a reflecting pool and Pont de Pierre on the Garonne river at night ~ in south western France 🇫🇷 I show you a few more sights as a bonus while we wander by. As you know from last week’s post I am in France at the moment. We only had an evening in Bordeaux city, even though it rained… I just had to go out and see some of the stunning highlights of this charming city. After dinner it was already dark so the lights of the buildings and streetlights were on, what changed the entire feel. It looked stunning! Let me show you:
With this post I’m joining in at the Wednesday Walk #challenge. That is hosted by @tattoodjay every week on Wednesday. ‼️Have a look: Here in the Wednesday Walk Community if you want to join in!… the community is run by @tattoodjay Look at his last #Wednesdaywalk post. Today’s photographic selection will be of 19 PHOTOGRAPHS Date : 23 April 2025 The Photographs in this post are taken with my iPhone. I will follow the time stamps on them. So it looks like you are experiencing my adventures on this walk to #discover everything what I saw, like the little #details seen through my eyes.
Location of Bordeaux we find on the following screenshot of Google Maps :
We had a late dinner and finished about 21:30h. We headed toward the Garonne river and its bridge “ Pont de Pierre” as I knew there were some impressive buildings to see along the way and a walk along the river at night is just romantic with all the lights. Don’t you think? Yes, even when it is rainy and cold haha (it is not the Nordics cold I had for the last 7 months)
Our route we will walk, I marked in yellow on the following screenshot from google maps:
First we see a little square and on it we see peeking around the corner the amazing Opera house from Bordeaux:
As we walk further we are right next to it. Just look at the columns. I love their reflections on the wet floor. The warm yellow…
More information about the Opera House you find here: In Wikipedia: Grand Theatre de Bordeaux! or here: In their own website! Opera - Bordeaux
On this street there are some little shops, of course closed this late at night… in one of the windows we see this map from the Wine regions around Bordeaux. I love the old school feel of it.
Soon we reach the riverside.
The views there 🤩 are taking my breath away.
We see an enormous building on the right.
It is the Grand Place de Bourse and its monumental buildings around it. (this square) More information about it you find here : Place de Bourse Bordeaux in English and here : In Wikipedia!
Across the street from the Grand place de Bourse we find the Miroir d’Eau a reflecting pool. If you look closely you see a little boy walking over it. The water floats on top about a cm. So you can walk through it. During the day there are hundreds of little fountains on and off (the lighter coloured rings) that make for some water fun for the kids… and grown ups haha
We walk slowly further…
The fountain and the buildings are reflecting beautifully in the mirror/ water pool.
Behind us we see in the distance the bridge, we are heading towards… slowly. Below my favourite 2 photos of the day.
As there is a street between us and the square, occasionally a tram comes by too. I just captured one in front of it all. It creates another interesting photograph.
Let us look at bit closer at the large fountain ⛲️ So beautiful.
We walk now all the way to the rivers edge and lean over the railing. We see the bridge - Pont de Pierre in the distance. It is large and beautifully lit. The light reflects in the Garonne river.
I zoom in from here.
Shall we walk all the way towards the bridge to see it closer by?
Yes… ok, let’s go.
We look one more time back at the Place de Bourse and the stunning #architecture of the buildings around it. Do read about it in above’s websites.
Soon we walk by this beauty:
A little bonus as we didn’t know about it. Is the Porte Cailhau. The gate to the city. More information about it you find here : Porte Cailhau Bordeaux and here : In Wikipedia! Such a beautiful gate, just look at all the towers.
After walking further we finally reach the bridge over the Garonne. Our walk took us about half an hour. So not that bad if you only have a short day to explore some of the main sights of Bordeaux.
Let’s look closer…
More information about the bridge over the Garonne river you find here : In Wikipedia Pont de Pierre! and here : Pont Pierre Bordeaux! I believe the bridge is stunning at any time in the year and day. I love the lanterns.
Looking all the way along the Pont de Pierre. So beautiful!
