Hello guys,
The last few days I was in Prague and one cool place that I've been visiting was John Lennon Wall. I liked it. The idea of it. The colors. What it represents.
I'm happy we got a bright sunny day and walked around the city, visiting all the major tourist objectives.
Lennon Wall in Prague is a symbol of freedom.
It has a very interesting history, I've read about it and I invite you do the same, in case you want to know more about.
...the only place in the entire city where graffiti is deemed legal, this wall is a significant political and historical symbol. [source]
The wall is located in Praha 1, most central district in Prague, Mala Strana.
Also, John Lennon Wall is just a few steps from Charles Bridge, one of the most representative constructions in Prague.
The area here is super nice. I enjoyed this part of the city. We came on foot from Praga Castle. We enjoyed our walking.
And I can truly say that Praga is TOP favorite cities so far...I consider it being a clean one and the transportation comes in hand. You have bus, tram or subway to chose from. They all are very efficient organized.
We didnt use the car to visit the city. The car was left at the hotel. We walked and most of the time, we used public transportation, which is the best you can do here.
As I've read it, Lennon Wall in Prague was repainted several times until present, always being in change.
Here I leave you some documented info.
The wall had been decorated by love poems and short messages against the regime since 1960s. It received its first decoration connected to John Lennon—a symbol of freedom, western culture, and political struggle—following the 1980 assassination of John Lennon when an unknown artist painted a single image of the singer-songwriter and some lyrics. What does the wall symbolise?
QuoteSome say that this wall is Prague’s equivalent of the Berlin Wall, in terms of it’s significance. With inspiring lyrics and positive messages plastered all over it, the wall undoubtedly symbolises freedom, free speech, peace and resistance against Communism.
The wall was originally known as the ‘Crying Wall’, where people would come and out pour their frustrations with government and authority. During the Communism era, western pop songs such as the ones sung by The Beatles were actually banned – and people would even be imprisoned for playing them. The music spearheaded by John Lennon represented freedom and it captured the imagination of Prague’s youth. So, the name for the wall arose after John Lennon’s death in 1980, when people came in their droves here to mourn his death and celebrate all that he stood for. The widow of John Lennon, Yoko Ono even visited the wall in 2003. [source here]
I loved these vibrant colors.
I've been looking into it, seeing how it looked before. There are many versions until present and I think it was beautiful before as well. It matters what it means and what gave people. Meaning a place where they would come and leave their thoughts or worries. It symbolizes a deep meaning and value to people, especially in the past.
Overall, it is an amazing peace of art in the heart of Prague, Czech Republik.
Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoy it! 💛
