The Baiyoke Sky Hotel is not a great hotel to be honest, but it is the tallest hotel, with the highest restaurant and bar and is the third tallest building in Thailand and for this reason alone, is well worth a visit.
We stayed there last night for our wedding anniversary and they had made a little effort for us with towel swans, a chocolate cake and rose petals on the bed and in the bath, bloody things got everywhere and I'm glad I didn't have to clean up after us!
The room was alright, the all-you-can-eat buffet dinner and breakfast dinner were not too bad (the wife however thought the seafood was fresh and delicious) but the views from our room on the 73rd floor, and from the 84th-floor rotating viewing platform were spectacular!
It was nice to see that the hotel was relatively busy after the pandemic and for anyone interested, the prices were very reasonable, even in the hotel coffee shop, a nice cappuccino was just 45baht (for comparison, a small Starbucks cappuccino comes in at around 105baht).
The location is central and it is firmly and unashamedly a tourist hotel. The thing I found strange was that it was only completed in 1997 and looking at it, both the external architecture and furnishings, it was so dated and looked slap bang out of the 1970s.
You don't need to be staying here either to take advantage of the amazing view from the top, you can get tickets just to go up to the observation decks which a lot of people appeared to be doing. Lat night at 8 pm when I took the night photos, it was packed up there and even as a guest had a 15-minute wait for the lifts to take me back down to the floor we were staying on!
This is what the hotel looks like from the Amari Watergate where I stayed last year. Check out my skyline shots and see if you can work out where I was stood to take this photo!
They were really spinning things out with the highest payphone in Thailand and the highest post box but at least there were a number of Insta-opportunities in the viewing gallery. I was a little sad that the bar was all enclosed but at the restaurant on the 81st floor where we had breakfast, you could sit outside. Only good for dinner though, at breakfast this morning, the sun was hot and bright, unlike the day previously when it had poured it down most of the day. There was an incredible thunderstorm last night too which was also an amazing sight from our bed in the sky.
I will also sneak in a general whinge about 'buffets'. I long for the day when I could walk into a restaurant and hand be seated before being handed a menu and then a nice waiter arriving to take our order before the food and drinks were brought to our table. Last night I walked around in circles for hours
The other thing I was disappointed with was the windows in our room which spanned the full width of the room and were floor to ceiling but had some sort of mesh built into them which spoiled the view somewhat. I'm guessing it was a safety thing but even so, was a shame.
I don't want to end on a downer about the hotel so I will say that the place was spotless and everything was immaculately clean and tidy. The staff were also absolutely super friendly and helpful. It was so lovely to see a little life coming back and have felt so sorry for Bangkok's tourist industry which has basically lost two years of business.
Enjoy the pictures and if you have any questions, feel free to ask!
They'd made a bit of effort for our anniversary although I still have rose petals stuck to my bum!
The wife is knocking on a bit and needed a quick reminder about where she was!
Where there were many photo opportunities but would have been better if the windows had been cleaner.
Let's go out onto the revolving steel walkway...
Time for some dinner and the wife was happy, she has crabs...
The city streets, 83 floors below...
Not a place singles are going to go 'on the pull'!
The observation deck stays open while 10pm.
All cities look much better at night.
Could you match the daytime shots to the night time shots?
The EXACT Location is added to @pinmapple (alongside the two other pins there!) and all photos were taken by me on Monday and Tuesday.
