An abandoned castle (Speidel Castle) and a viewpoint (Crown of Limenaria) in the town of Limenaria, Thassos Island (GR)
Hello travelers
Today I was thinking about what places to share with you. I couldn't decide between going to explore the town of Limenaria or taking a short trip outside the town to visit an abandoned castle and a viewpoint.
As you can see from the title, I chose the second option, but don't worry, I'll also write a blog dedicated to the town of Limenaria.
If you have read my recent blogs, you already know that we stayed right here in the center of Limenaria, so come with us on a walk on an amazing summer day.
It was quite warm outside, so we purchased a few bottles of water and placed them in our backpack. I am not particularly fond of heat, but somehow I agreed to go for a walk.
The distance from our accommodation to Speidel Castle was about 1 kilometer, so let's get going.
The route is not difficult, and I was very lucky that most of it was through the forest, an amazing route. I don't regret my decision to do it.
Speidel Castle
An imposing castle with impressive architecture, I am sure that the interior is just as impressive, but unfortunately the castle is currently abandoned, so I am left with only a few pictures of it.
Castle Speidel is a captivating historical site in Limenaria, Greece, that beckons tourists with its majestic presence and rich history. This castle, characterized by its impressive architecture and strategic coastal location, offers visitors a unique opportunity to delve into the storied past of the region. As you approach the castle, you are greeted by panoramic views of the Aegean Sea and the picturesque Limenaria marina, which make for perfect photo opportunities. The castle's robust stone walls and towers speak to its historical significance, serving as a reminder of the area's turbulent past and the resilience of its inhabitants. Inside, explore the remnants of ancient structures that hint at the castle’s former grandeur and strategic importance in defending the coastline.
Beyond its historical allure, Castle Speidel is surrounded by natural beauty, with lush landscapes and serene beaches nearby, making it an ideal spot for a day of exploration and relaxation. The tranquil atmosphere allows visitors to unwind, while the breathtaking views inspire a sense of wonder and appreciation for the region's heritage. Whether you are a history enthusiast or simply seeking a picturesque location to enjoy the sun, Castle Speidel promises an unforgettable experience. Make sure to take your time wandering the grounds and soaking in the sights, as this castle is not just a monument, but a vibrant part of Greece's cultural tapestry.
We leave the castle behind and continue our journey to an impressive viewpoint, Crown of Limanaria.
I think it's more than 1.5 kilometers from the castle to there, so let's go.
After more than twenty minutes, we reach that viewpoint, and I am speechless. The view is... honestly, I can't find the right words. I don't know if the photos manage to convey the beauty of this place.

Crown of Limenaria
Don't do as we did. If you visit Thassos Island and, of course, want to come here, I'll give you some advice: come early in the morning, don't visit when it's boiling hot outside.
Dear friends, my blog for today has come to an end. I hope this blog will inspire you too if you ever visit Thassos.
