Welcome my dear disconcerting travelers of the internet and thank you very much for having made a temporary stop in my post, as you may already know (And if you didn't know it now yes) I am quite a fan of suspense and intrigue films, it is a type of films that catch my attention, that is why when the movie "The Thing" came out as a suggestion it was enough to give a quick read to its synopsis to make me want to give it a chance. Without further ado, prepare to distrust all your comrades because we are about to begin.
Bienvenidos mis queridos viajeros desconcertantes del internet y muchas gracias por haber hecho una parada temporal en mi post, cómo ya sabrán (Y si no lo sabían ahora ya sí) soy bastante fanático de los filmes de suspenso e intriga, es un tipo de cintas que me llaman mucho la atención, es por ello que cuando salió como sugerencia la película "The Thing" solo basto darle una rápida leída a su sinopsis para darme ganas de darle una oportunidad. Sin más que agregar, prepárense para desconfiar de todos sus camaradas pues estamos por comenzar.

The Thing was released in 1982, it is based on the novel 'Who Goes There?" Written by John Campbell in 1938, the film was directed by John Carpenter and produced by The Turman-Foster Company, with a duration of 1 hour and 49 minutes. It is a horror and suspense film, the story takes place in an American research center that is located in Antarctica, the group is alerted when they hear gunshots and is even more surprised when they witness an inexplicable scene of a man shooting a dog from a helicopter, due to the surreal of the scene the Americans shot down the Norwegian subjects thinking that they had lost their minds for being there for a long time In that frozen wasteland, after the confrontation they give shelter to the dog, however, sooner rather than later they would realize that what they saved was not a conventional canine.

Escrita por John Campbell en 1938, la cinta fue dirigida por John Carpenter y producida por The Turman-Foster Company, cuenta con una duración de 1 hora y 49 minutos. Es un filme de terror y suspenso, la historia se desarrolla en un centro de investigación estadounidense que se encuentra ubicado en la Antártida, el grupo se alerta cuando escucha disparos y se sorprende aún más cuando presencian una escena inexplicable de un hombre disparándole a un perro desde un helicóptero, debido a lo surrealista de la escena los estadounidenses abatieron a los sujetos noruegos pensando que habían perdido la cabeza por estar mucho tiempo en ese paramo helado, posterior al enfrentamiento dan cobijo al perro, sin embargo, más temprano que tarde se darían cuenta de que eso que salvaron no era un canino convencional.

The soundtrack is very pleasant, it knows how to masterfully accompany the various situations of tension, in addition, it manages to increase the horror scenes, in this way this section is consolidated as a fundamental element to enhance the multiple chilling moments that the film houses.
La banda sonora es muy agradable, la misma sabe acompañar de forma magistral a las diversas situaciones de tensión, además, logra acrecentar las escenas de terror, de esta forma este apartado se consolida como un elemento fundamental para potenciar los múltiples momentos escalofriantes que alberga el filme.

The construction of the world is limited to being a limiter of the actions of the characters, the whole story takes place in Antarctica a remote and isolated place, the above mentioned makes everything have a desolate touch since it is clarified that there is no possible help for the characters, in turn, the little scenery that is there is used assertively for the development of the plot and the mystery that surrounds it to the premise, being that the rooms and the location of the characters is a central axis of the film. The camera angles are very well achieved, there are many moments that pass in the background without the characters noticing, the latter adds a layer of uncertainty and very pleasant uneasiness because it generates a very great tension in the viewer, additionally, a very ingenious camera work is also done to elevate the terrifying situations to the next level, in general, in this sense the film stands out a lot.
La construcción de mundo se limita a ser un limitador del accionar de los personajes, toda la historia se desarrolla en la Antártida un sitio remoto y aislado, lo anterior mencionado hace que todo tenga un toque desolador puesto que se esclarece que no hay ayuda posible para los personajes, a su vez, la poca escenografía que se tiene se emplea de forma asertiva para el desarrollo de la trama y el misterio que envuelve a la premisa, siendo que las habitaciones y la ubicación de los personajes es un eje central del filme. Los ángulos de cámara están muy bien logrados, existen muchos momentos que transcurren de fondo sin que los personajes se den cuenta, esto último le agrega una capa de incertidumbre e inquietud muy agradable debido a que genera una tensión muy grande en el espectador, adicionalmente, también se hace un trabajo de cámara muy ingenioso para elevar las situaciones terroríficas al siguiente nivel, en líneas generales, en este sentido el filme destaca mucho.

The plot is a simple concept but perfectly executed, to get an idea this is very similar to the premise of the game "Among us" as there is a strange creature that wants to eliminate all the residents of station 31 and impersonate them, this despite the fact that it seems basic is very interesting because the film gives clues about who could be infected but does not reveal it to the viewer until the characters discover, this gives an enigmatic nuance to the film that suits it very well. There is not much to highlight from its narrative, as mentioned at the beginning the premise is simple, however, the film manages to get as much out of it as possible, on the other hand, there are the unpleasant scenes of the transformation of the monster and the murders, we are talking about a film of more than 40 years and despite this it is preserved relatively well to the point that it can cause displeasure effortlessly. All the aforementioned elements make a perfect combination that keeps the viewer completely attentive about all the events that take place, so it is completely enjoyable, in fact, you could say that to a certain extent it is short.
La trama es un concepto simple pero perfectamente ejecutado, para hacerse una idea esta es muy similar a la premisa del juego “Among us” al haber una criatura extraña que quiere eliminar a todos los residentes de la estación 31 y suplantarlos, esto pese a que parezca básico es muy interesante debido a que la cinta da pistas sobre quién podría estar infectado más no se lo revela al espectador hasta que los personajes lo descubren, esto le da un matiz enigmático a la película que le queda muy bien. No hay mucho que destacar de su narrativa, como se mencionó al principio la premisa es simple, no obstante, el filme se las ingenia para sacarle todo el jugo posible, por otro lado, están las escenas desagradables de la transformación del monstruo y los asesinatos, hablamos de una película de más de 40 años y pese a ello se conserva relativamente bien al punto de que puede causar desagrado sin esfuerzo. Todos los elementos antes mencionados hacen una combinación perfecta que mantiene al espectador completamente atento sobre todos los sucesos que tienen lugar, por lo que es completamente disfrutable, es más, se podría decir que hasta cierto punto se hace corta.

The characters do not stand out for having an interesting characterization or anything that resembles it, however, the film never strives to give them a deep development far from it, although the above mentioned may seem a mistake it is a success, the latter is due to the fact that it concentrates on giving everyone a very well constructed feeling of survival as well as a fear of having to face something that they do not know that it has the ability to end their lives, in this way and despite the fact that the characters are unknown it is impossible not to empathize with them and with their desire to survive in the face of the unknown threat.
Los personajes no destacan por tener una caracterización interesante ni nada que se le asemeje, sin embargo, la cinta nunca se esfuerza por darles un desarrollo profundo ni mucho menos, pese a que lo anterior mencionado pueda parecer un error es un acierto, esto último se debe a que se concentra en darles a todos un sentimiento de supervivencia muy bien construido así como un miedo al hecho de tener que enfrentarse a algo que desconocen que tiene la capacidad de acabar con sus vidas, de esta forma y pese a que los personajes sean desconocidos es imposible no empatizar con ellos y con su deseo de sobrevivir ante la amenaza desconocida.
The Thing is the perfect example of something simple that is worked excellently to the point that it ends up being something fantastic, its main attraction is to combine in a magnificent way the concepts of survival, fear of the unknown and the panic of not knowing who to trust, with the previously mentioned trinity is that this captivating film and with well-achieved scenes of suspense could be gestated. It is for all of the above that it deserves 4.5 stars out of 7, despite its age it still preserves moderately well, in addition, its open finish is a quite pleasant touch.
The Thing es el perfecto ejemplo de algo simple que es trabajado de forma excelente al punto de que termina siendo algo fantástico, su principal atractivo es combinar de forma magnífica los conceptos de supervivencia, miedo a lo desconocido y el pánico de no saber en quién confiar, con la trinidad previamente mencionada es que se pudo gestar esta cinta tan atrapante y con escenas bien logradas de suspenso. Es por todo lo anterior que merece 4.5 estrellas de 7, pese a su edad aún se conserva medianamente bien, además, su final abierto es un toque bastante agradable.
