I don't know how many years of waiting it took to have a new Final Destination movie, I think it was about 14 and the truth is that the return was epic, Final Destination Bloodlines reminded me why this franchise is so addictive and I love to see death being so creative with its victims. The truth is that when they announced this sixth installment I thought it would be more of the same, because the idea has always been the same, a group of young people escapes from a massive accident and then death hunts them down one by one, but this time directors Adam Stein and Zach Lipovsky brought something different and I think this justifies the long time we had to wait. The premise this time is much more ambitious, it's no longer just about a group of strangers escaping death, but about a whole family whose existence should never have been possible, because their grandmother managed to save hundreds of people 50 years ago in the 60's, and now death comes back to claim all those lives that escaped her, including all the descendants that were born after that event. I thought this ideal gave it a different touch and also expands the Final Destination universe and gives more emotional weight to the story because we no longer see casual characters die but members of a family who really care about each other.

No sé cuántos años de espera pasaron para tener una nueva película de Final Destination creo que fueron unos 14 y la verdad el regreso fue épico, Final Destination Bloodlines me recordó el por qué esta franquicia es tan adictiva y es que me encanta ver a la muerte siendo tan creativa con sus víctimas. La verdad es que cuando anunciaron esta sexta entrega llegue a pensar que sería más de lo mismo, porque la idea siempre ha sido igual, un grupo de jóvenes escapa de un accidente masivo y luego la muerte los va cazando uno por uno, pero esta vez los directores Adam Stein y Zach Lipovsky trajeron algo diferente y creo quie esto justifica el largo tiempo que tuvimos que esperar. La premisa esta vez es mucho más ambiciosa, ya no se trata solo de un grupo de desconocidos que escapan de la muerte, sino de toda una familia cuya existencia nunca debió haber sido posible, porque su abuela logró salvar a cientos de personas hace 50 años en los años 60, y ahora la muerte regresa para cobrar todas esas vidas que se le escaparon, incluyendo a todos los descendientes que nacieron después de ese evento. Me pareció que esta ideal le dio un toque diferente y que también expande el universo de Final Destination y da más peso emocional a la historia porque ya no vemos morir a personajes casuales sino a miembros de una familia que realmente se preocupan unos por otros.

The special effects in this part are good and the sequence is fast and intense, it generated me quite an adrenaline rush so much that I started screaming for them to get out of there hehehe. After this the movie jumps to the present and we see that everything is a dream or rather a nightmare that Stephanie is having, played by Kaitlyn Santa Juana, she dreams the same thing for almost two months and it turns out that the girl in the dream is her grandmother and this is where the movie gets good and explains how this bloodlines thing works and why the whole family is marked to die.
La película arranca con una muchacha que está en una torre tipo Space Needle que colapsa de la manera más brutal posible, aquí la tensión se construye muy bien porque se ven los pequeños detalles que van a causar el desastre, un niño tira monedas y eso hace que se tape un de los ventiladores de los ductos, se destraba sale la moneda volando y parte un tubo del gas, hay un cocinero trabajando con fuego abierto y bueno te podrás imaginar lo que sigue, todo está conectado de esa manera tan característica de Final Destination donde cada elemento aparentemente inocente se convierte en parte de una máquina de muerte gigantesca. Los efectos especiales en esta parte son buenos y la secuencia es rápida e intensa, me generó bastante adrenalina tanto que comencé a gritar que salieran de allí jejeje. Después de esto la película salta al presente y vemos que todo es un sueño o mejor dicho una pesadilla que está teniendo Stephanie, interpretada por Kaitlyn Santa Juana, sueña lo mismo como por casi dos meses y resulta que la muchacha del sueño es su abuela y aquí es donde la película se pone buena y explica cómo funciona esto de bloodlines y por qué toda la familia está marcada para morir.
What I liked is that this group are family and they are not just any people, here we have brothers, cousins, uncles and fathers who really care about each other, the character of Eric, played by Max Lloyd-Jones has been my favorite because at first you think he is going to be the typical annoying skeptic who says all the wrong things, but he turns out to be the most sympathetic of the whole family and there were moments where I was worried about him, more so when he is trying to protect his brother. The deaths in this movie are brutal and creative, it keeps that Final Destination spark of turning an ordinary situation into a deadly nightmare, from a simple backyard grill to MRI machines, it can be a death trap. The death in the hospital is probably the best of the whole movie, a sequence so crazy and gore that it made me laugh and scream at the same time. What I liked is that the film maintains that balance between horror and comedy, never taking itself too seriously but also never becoming a complete parody of itself.
Lo que me gustó es que este grupo son familia y no son personas cualquiera, aquí tenemos hermanos, primos, tíos y padres que realmente se preocupan unos por otros, el personaje de Eric, interpretado por Max Lloyd-Jones ha sido mi favorito porque al principio piensas que va a ser el típico escéptico molesto que dice todas las cosas incorrectas, pero resulta ser el más simpatico de toda la familia y hubo momentos donde me preocupaba por él, más cuando está tratando de proteger a su hermano. For the first time in the entire franchise, there is an explanation of who Bludworth or JB really is and why he knows so much about death, revealing that he was also one of the people who was supposed to die in the tower crash in the 1960s, but was saved by Iris. This revelation makes sense of his presence in all the previous movies, I liked that this one connects to the previous movies without being too obvious about it but with subtle references and of course this doesn't interfere if you are new watching the movie. What I didn't like about Bloodlines is that it suffers from the same old problems of the franchise, like in the third moment it's all fast paced and less exciting than the rest of the movie.

In my opinion Final Destination Bloodlines is just what this franchise needed after 14 years of absence, my score is 7.5/10, it's a movie that respects what came before but also brings fresh ideas, although it has its flaws like sometimes you see a lot of computer usage and not so many practical effects and some characters act stupid to make the plot work, the movie manages to capture that essence of Final Destination that I like so much, because of the mix of tension, creative gore and black humor. Kaitlyn Santa Juana's performance as the lead is good although I must admit she's not the most charismatic of the franchise, but overall the actors look like they belong together as a family. The death sequences are good and creative and even though I already know the formula by heart the film managed to surprise me. The ending is brutal and has that typical Final Destination conclusion that reminds you that no one can escape death forever, I quite liked it I think Bloodlines proved that this franchise still has a lot to give.
En mi opinión Final Destination Bloodlines es justo lo que necesitaba esta franquicia después de 14 años de ausencia, mi puntuación es 7.5/10, es una película que respeta lo que vino antes pero que también trae ideas frescas, aunque tiene sus defectos como que a veces se ve mucho el uso de computadora y no son tantos efectos prácticos y algunos personajes actúan de manera estúpida para que la trama funcione, la película logra capturar esa esencia de Final Destination que tanto me gusta, por la mezcla de tensión, gore creativo y humor negro. La actuación de Kaitlyn Santa Juana como protagonista es buena aunque debo admitir que no es la más carismática de la franquicia, pero en general los actores se ven como si fueran una familia. Las secuencias de muerte son buenas y creativas y aunque ya conozca la formula de memoria la película me logró sorprender. El final es brutal y tiene esa típica conclusión de Final Destination que te recuerda que nadie puede escapar de la muerte para siempre, a mí me gustó bastante creo que Bloodlines demostró que esta franquicia todavía tiene mucho que dar.
