It was Mid-autumn Festival yesterday which is also known as Mooncake Festival in some places.
I took the opportunity to invite my youngest sister over for dinner with my family. It was also a time to enjoy some mooncakes and also play lanterns together.
I cooked some simple dinner with my mum-in-law helping me with some preps. Just some simple claypot chicken rice with a vegetable dish and a soup.
Having my sister over was important for my children's bonding with her. My eldest loves to have her over when he was young and he would stick with her whenever she is around. This time she came to help me assemble a lantern as well.
Showcasing my mooncakes variety this year
My sister said I am a mooncake "millionaire" this year. Hahahah I have to laugh at this remark but yes too many unexpected mooncakes appeared at the arrival of Mooncake Festival suddenly the day before it! I have decided that I will not buy any at all at the beginning of this season as the prices hike was a bit too much.
Part of my "collection"
However with gifting from sisters and students' parents, I guess it did amount to this.
This was one of the 4 ice cream mooncakes gifted by my sisters for my birthday earlier of the month.
Here are some different types of mooncakes given by my students' parents. They are the more traditional types - Bamboo Piglet Biscuit and Fish Biscuit.
Then there is these snowskin durian mooncakes from the famous Duria brand that we bought for my mum-in-law.
After dinner and enjoying some mooncakes, we went to carry lanterns in the dark downstairs my apartment. It is a tradition that I did keep since young so whenever I can do it, I let my children enjoy this part of the Mid-Autumn Festival too. It used to be a very fun event for this festival when we went around the neighbourhood with our neighbours.
Usually the moon is full on this occasion but tonight it was hidden by some clouds when we went down to check on it.
Any occasion of the Chinese festivals are an oppotune time for family reunion. We give thanks for those who are still around with us and appreciate our time together!!
