Hey all,
I have been trying to find a wild jumping spider for weeks and weeks and finally tonight I found one on one of our pot plants. These guys are tiny and move really quickly, and of course, they jump about. Jumping spiders are awesome, if I could have a pet one then I would, but the other half is petrified of anything with 8 legs so it's a no-go. They don't make webs to catch their prey, they attack them. Kind of like the Spanish inquisition...
Our chief weapon is surprise... surprise and fear... fear and surprise... our two weapons are fear and surprise... and ruthless efficiency... Our three weapons are fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency...
Before jumping they will attach a silk thread to the surface they are on as a bungee in case they fall off. At one point, this little guy who was no larger than 5mm jumped about 6 inches.
Anyway, once I found him, I put him in a little pot while I set up my black acrylic sheet outside on the patio table. Let him run around a bit on there and got some shots. They are tricky to shoot as they tend to run away from the big white diffuser but there's a few I'm happy with which I'm sharing here. Hope you like them.
