Cycling update for week 33: Very hot days, an ambulance and a long saturdaymorning ride!

Hello fellow cyclists (and others)!

So, my first week back from holiday and I had my first week at work again. And what a week it was.
We had a 'nice' heatwave this week here in The Netherlands. Luckily it wasn't that hot in the morning since the days started a bit cloudy.

But late in the afternoon, all clouds were gone and it was quite warm then. Luckily some parts of the route have trees that provide a bit of shade.

And my commuting ride on Thursday was a bit hectic. When I approached a roundabout I saw a cyclist laying on the ground. There was already a lady besides him. He was responsive, but apparently had fallen very hard while taking the turn. That morning it had rained a little, and after a long dry period it can then be dangerously slippery in some places.
He told me he already had pins in his leg after it had been broken before, so I decided to call the ambulance. After he was picked up, I rode the rest of the ride a bit more calmly.

This Saturday it was a bit cooler. Which was good, because I had planned to go for a ride with my mates. It looked as if it was going to rain, but luckily we kept it dry during the ride.

When I left home it was nice and calm on the roads, but two hours later there were more and more cyclist. You could really see that the holidays didn't end for everyone yet. There are still a lot of tourists. And those are the worst on a bicycle πŸ˜‚
You just have to slow down a bit when approaching them because you'll never know what they will do.

We finally made a nice 83 kilometer with an average speed of 29.6 km/h, which is not bad when you consider it was quite windy, busy on the cylcing paths and we added a 'climb' on the route.
We don't have a lot of climbs in our flat country, but during the ride we crossed the 'kopje van Bloemendaal'; a 1.5 kilometer long climb with 34 meters of elevation.

It’s not such a big deal compared to the vulcans I've been riding during my holiday rides, but it was a nice test for the legs.
And Strava told me it was my fastest time for this climb ever. although I've only done it from this side 3 times, it remains an achievement πŸ˜‚.

My cycling goal for 2025!

I'm so close to being on schedule for the goal I've set myself this year. Despite the severe injury I had I've been able to catch up again. I was able to go for quite a few rides during my holidays, so that also helped.

This week I have cycled to work three days and made a nice long ride on Saturday. This resulted in a total of 182.22 kilometers this week.

The unexpected length of the ride on Saturday almost brought me back on track of my 2025 goal!
The total amount of kilometers made (red line) is 3168,52 and the total should have been 3172,95.
That's only a difference of 4,43 kilometer! I'm tempted to jump on my bicycle for another 5 kilometer ride, just to be on schedule again πŸ˜‚
But I don't. The red and blue line will probably cross eachother next week anyways (if no strange things happen).

For now it's 'just' 1831,48 kilometer left to cycle this year... Or more πŸ˜€πŸ’ͺ🏻🚴🏻
