Candle Craft on a Rainy Afternoon

Just like clockwork, the autumnal equinox brought with it a few days of stormy weather. It was as if nature was saying "fall has arrived". The wind battered the exterior of the house and rain came down sideways and outdoor activities were put on hold for a few days. Indoors, however, I had a lot to do and didn't mind at all the interruption in my normal schedule.

It seemed to me the perfect time to get into some cozy crafts. Some for fun others are the first step in my plans to re-start my small, candle making business.

After spending a couple of hours cleaning up the kitchen/living room where I work on my crafts, I built up a fire in the fireplace. Though fall may seem like an odd time to kick start an business it is actually the ideal time for candle making. Heating the house with a fire is a must part of fall and all of winter. And while the fire heats the living room I usually take advantage of the spot above the fire place to make tea or a meal of some sorts.

That day I heated the pitcher that I use for melting wax on the fire. It is really important to heat wax slowly over a low flame because heating wax to fast can lead to it burning and loosing it's natural honey scent.

While the wax heated I set up the molds on the table and got out my bullet journal to do some organizing for the week ahead. I always plan out my posts for Hive in my notebook so that I can keep my content consistent and (hopefully) interesting for the readers. Here are a few pages from my bullet journal to give you an idea of what goes in there:

Both journaling and candle making area great activities for rainy days when the internet is faulty or the power is out completely. And in rural areas both things are frequent occurrences. As much as I love being able to work online from my house I also appreciate the ability to craft, write, and create without the need for electricity.
