Read less, Buy More?

Lately, I noticed how I get easily tempted to buy books. It's not that I already run out of anything to read, but rather it's the opposite. Anyway, that urge is not new to me, but unlike before, now I get to buy them more conveniently. Back to the books, I still have a lot of them to read, but whenever I'm halfway to finishing one, I suddenly get the urge to check out the book I've been storing in my online cart. And when it arrived, I stopped reading the book I'm finishing and I started reading the one that just arrived. I thought that cycle would break once I'm on vacation, but unfortunately—it worsened. ![ridgette booktalk1_img2.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/ridgette/Eoc8xHSdHFDJahbEup1Sv3FTDUs9dypHUtqcveeG7H7j6eEZrMZ87SPAWUoVAn3UVRW.jpg) Since I'm home, I don't spend much on food because I don't get hungry whenever I'm not thinking that much, compared to when I'm on campus. That's why my weekly allowance remained mostly untouched; however, if my craving for food lessened, unfortunately, my craving for books increased. Unlike my one book per month purchase way back my pre-vacation time, now it's more like more than a couple of books per month. It's not totally a bad thing that I buy more books now, but I kinda feel guilty seeing that my unread books are slowly towering. ![ridgette booktalk1_img3.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/ridgette/Eokd6CTfBCPnifMdPV8LvxJ2Y7v2Bbqju5fs1GS3CYtMo2bHurfUHEnPAJnXWZ44QA3.jpg) I thought I could have more time to read now, but it turned out that I also have a lot of things to do, and also there are some unforeseen stuff that came up, *so yeah*—my reading time didn't really increased. However, since my urge to buy more books increased, the books that I need to finish doubled. That's why this morning, while looking for the old bookmark my teacher gave me, I realized that I seriously need to control the number of my book purchases. I think it's weirdly getting out of hand because this urge usually surfaces during nights when my guard is down. I don't know if it's just me, but at night I get more bold in decision making to the point I think less of the possible cons it may give me. ![ridgette booktalk1_img4.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/ridgette/EoCj5sBKJ2ztpZTwoWEerW4yQgqkfWsiXPuxCH67njPJMKSK1vPaT3PLtMDjExWmcEu.jpg) Further, I discovered how nice it is to annotate while reading and that somehow made my reading time longer. Plus, now I also review the books that I read, so I take notes of the important stuff about them while reading. And that's the reason why I read a book or a couple per week, unlike before, where I read a couple or more books per day. It's astonishing how my reading speed dropped, but it's fine because it's more enjoyable to read if I'm not chasing time. Before I read fast because there's a due date for every book I borrow, and also I lowkey want to be the one who will be the first to have two library cards *haha*. ![ridgette booktalk1_img5.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/ridgette/Eoc7VRJf5TTE86bbTyJyUuiGCpXSs6TFjYdwxswsYRyGAX8sXGXqzhejxHvPsd34zCV.jpg) But now that these books are mine, and I don't have time limit in reading them! I can say that I'm enjoying the experience, yet there are times I miss the thrill of finishing books like before—where due dates are involved. So much for the reminiscing—going back to my concern, I made a personal promise to finish first all of the books I recently bought before I check out another book from my online cart. I also made a punishment if I ever break it...one that would really make me regret that I broke it. I prefer not to say it because I don't want to jinx its effectiveness on me, but I do hope I can't break that promise. ![ridgette booktalk1_img6.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/ridgette/23wqeL3Wfe3PZA5HPkSg5FJo48jG9Ya8skdBQ1y28QyfSWvuRhB8CUJiNL8ZfFE2YSko1.jpg) *How about you?* What are your latest concerns regarding books? Is it also about your reading time and book purchasing habit—or are there others? Well, if you don't mind, you can share them in the comments. That would be all for now, bookworms, and I hope that you enjoyed my sharing. > See you around!
