Kawana Waters parkrun

I like Kawana parkrun but I have only done it twice because it is over an hour and half drive from our house. The first time I visited was way back in 2016 then we did it again in 2019 after covid finished. It is actually one of my favorites because the course is run right along the coastal pathway from the Kawana surf club to Point Cartwright. You actually run around the light house at Point Cartwright before heading back to the start line. A beautiful out and back course with lots of ocean views. The Start can get a little busy and it is hard to pass until people get sorted out on the narrow path way. Kawana brings back lots of good memories as I used to live there when I first moved to Queensland and was even a member of the surf life saving club for a while. I remember redoing my bronze medallion surf live saving certificate there. I will never forget the practical swim test at the open beach on a bad day in big swell.

You can usually get a coffee in the surf club car park but we prefer BFresh Cafe market Deli in the next suburb at Warana.

Over the summer school holiday period they start the parkrun on the beach because the extra crowds make it too busy for the narrow pathway. I have not experienced this yet but I have heard the beach running is only for a few hundred meters before getting back onto the concrete. Photo credit Kawana parkrun facebook page.
