Its only three kilometres off the main highway between Sydney and Canberra. I don’t always like the detours on the fast dual lane roads when we have some place to be. They seem to add hours to long driving days but some are really worth the effort. This stops are so much more interesting than the Highway truck stops and service stations. I have to be careful not to speed in this small town after hours of sitting on a 110 kilometres an hour. 50 just seems so slow, like it would be quicker to get out and walk. So this is the oldest continually licenced pub in Australia, I did not know that and it is good to learn something everyday. Situated on the corner of Wingecarribee Street and the old Hulme Highway. Right in front of the Wingecarribee river too. The name Winge Karrabee comes from the Dharawal Aboriginal people. It means ”a flight of birds” and ”waters to rest beside. I recon this place would have seen some interesting times sitting right across the road from a big old jail. The had a nice selection of really old stuff sitting in some displays almost as good as a museum.

I love all the old sand stone and timber work. It was built in 1834 for James Harper

There was this massive tree outside that looked as old as the inn. There were a few other cool looking building on the main street of town too but we did not have enough time to check them all out properly.
