During this year's May Day weekend I went to my hometown for a longer break. I had the opportunity to take a short trip around the area and visit the Arboretum in Bolestraszyce. It is located just a few kilometers from Przemyśl and is a place that delights with the diversity of nature and the richness of plant collections. Over 4.5 thousand species, varieties and forms of plants have been collected on an area of approximately 29 hectares, creating a unique place on the map of Poland.
The Arboretum is famous for its diverse collections, including dendrological, pomological, aquatic and marsh plants, greenhouse plants, and heather plants. The National Iris Collection attracts special attention, as well as the collection of rare, endangered and protected plants, such as Marsilea quadrifolia, Transylvanian thistle or common lady's slipper. The Arboretum protects old varieties of fruit trees, including apple trees, pears and bird cherry. The National Dogwood Collection, with around 650 specimens, is located in the garden. Interestingly, various preserves can be made from dogwood fruit, and some of them are made and sold in the shop on the Arboretum.
The Arboretum has a rich collection of aquatic and marsh plants, including rare and protected species, such as water lily, floating sagebrush, water caltrop, rootless wolffia and four-leafed marsilea. These plants can be admired in natural ponds and specially prepared water holes. Natural ponds and water holes, apart from being home to all these aquatic plants, are also a very strong asset of the Bolestraszyce arboterum. Thanks to them, the heat was not felt so much, because it is always a bit cooler by the water, and they made the entire park more spacious and diverse. It's a pity that the Krakow Botanical Garden has only a small pond, and there is no room for such impressive ponds.
During the visit to the Arboretum, mainly hellebores, fruit trees, rhododendrons, wisterias, snowdrops bloomed. It was still too early for irises by about 2 or 3 weeks.
The Arboretum in Bolestraszyce is not only a botanical garden, but also a place of educational importance. On its premises there is a former manor house, where the painter Piotr Michałowski lived, and Fort XIIIb of the Przemyśl Fortress. The garden also offers numerous exhibitions, workshops and cultural events, including the International Artistic Open-Air "Wicker in the Arboretum".

Podczas tegorocznej majówki udałem się w rodzinne strony na dłuższy odpoczynek. Miałem wówczas oakzję zrobic małą wycieczke po okolicy i zwiedzić Arboretum w Bolestraszycach. Położone jest ono zaledwie kilka kilometrów od Przemyśla i jest to miejsce, które zachwyca różnorodnością przyrody i bogactwem kolekcji roślinnych. Na powierzchni około 29 hektarów zgromadzono ponad 4,5 tysiąca gatunków, odmian i form roślin, tworząc unikalne miejsce na mapie Polski.
Arboretum słynie z różnorodnych kolekcji, w tym dendrologicznej, pomologicznej, roślin wodnych i bagiennych, szklarniowych, wrzosowatych. Szczególną uwagę przyciąga Narodowa Kolekcja Irysów oraz kolekcja roślin rzadkich, zagrożonych i chronionych, takich jak marsylia czterolistna, ostrożeń siedmiogrodzki czy obuwik pospolity. W Arboretum prowadzona jest ochrona starych odmian drzew owocowych, w tym jabłoni, grusz i czereśni ptasiej. Na terenie ogrodu znajduje się Narodowa Kolekcja Derenia, licząca około 650 okazów. Co ciekawe z owoców derenia mozna wytwarzać rózne pretwory i częśc z nich wytwarzana i sprzedaana jest w sklepiku na terenie Arboretum.
Arboretum posiada bogatą kolekcję roślin wodnych i bagiennych, w tym rzadkich i chronionych gatunków, takich jak grzybieńczyk wodny, salwinia pływająca, kotewka orzech wodny, wolffia bezkorzeniowa oraz marsylia czterolistna . Rośliny te można podziwiać w naturalnych stawach oraz specjalnie przygotowanych oczkach wodnych. Naturalne stawy i oczka wodne poza tym, że są domem dla tych wszyschi wodnych roślin są też bardzo mocnym walorem Bolestraszyckiego arbotetrum. Dzięki nim nie odczuwąlo się tak bardzo upałów, bo nad woda jest zawsze troche chłodniej, oraz sprawiały, że ten cały park był bardzije przestronny i róznorodny. Szkoda, że Krakowski Oggród botaniczny ma tylko małe oczko wodne, a nie ma tam miejsca na takie okazałe stawy.
Podczas wizyty w Arboretum rozkwitły głwonie ciemierniki, drzewa owocowe, rododendrony, wisterie, śnieżyce. Dla irysów bylo jeszcze za wczęsnie o jakies 2 może 3 tygodnie.
Arboretum w Bolestraszycach to nie tylko ogród botaniczny, ale także miejsce o znaczeniu edukacyjnym. Na jego terenie znajduje się dawny dwór, w którym mieszkał malarz Piotr Michałowski, oraz fort XIIIb Twierdzy Przemyśl. Ogród oferuje również liczne wystawy, warsztaty i wydarzenia kulturalne, w tym Międzynarodowy Plener Artystyczny "Wiklina w Arboretum".
