Hello, beer lovers! 🍻
Saturday afternoon or evening is always for me (almost, if nothing else is happening) a time for beer tasting. This is still the case today.
beersaturday, already 430 in a row, is waiting for beers from all over the world.
After all, what else can we do when the Hive price is going down?
There are two cans in the refrigerator, one from Austria and one from faraway Thailand. I will gladly empty them and share the experience with you.
First, the one with less alcohol.
Bewog Lola Sour Ale
Brewed by Brauhaus Bevog, Bad Radkersburg, Steiermark, Austria. Can, 0.33 l, alcohol 3.5% ABV, IBU N/A. Sour Ale style.
What do the Master Brewers say?
Lola, our seasonal sour beer, is as refreshing as it gets. It was created with sunshine in our minds and is best described as summer in a glass. A double dose of the finest raspberries and blackcurrants gives it a gorgeous pink colour and a wonderful aroma of fresh fruits and berries that will overwhelm you. Its light body, easy and smooth tartness combined with a low alcohol level, will bring you to a sun-soaked beach every time, and will brighten your day, no matter how bad it was before.
For me, Bewog is one of the best European breweries, with numerous awards. I have already tasted most of their beers, but if this one is too sour, I already know I won't like it. But let's give the beer a chance.
The beer is a cloudy, red color, with average, creamy foam that disappears very quickly. Lots of bubbles. It smells of forest fruits, raspberries. It goes down smoothly, and I can taste sour raspberries in my mouth, not too strong and only for a short time: no sweetness or bitterness, just pure fruit. The aftertaste disappears quickly.
Very drinkable, fresh, and fruity. After the initial acidity, which quickly disappears, it seems as if I were drinking some very mineral water with a raspberry flavor. I am fascinated by the fact that there is no sweetness, which is fine, because raspberries are not sweet in our country; they are more sour. I didn't detect any of the characteristics of beer, such as the sweetness of malt or the bitterness of hops. But, I must admit, it's very refreshing, very suitable for quenching your thirst in the summer. It is available in all local stores, but the price is quite steep at €2.90.

Speaking of fruit, I also worked with something red today. In my mother's orchard, we have a couple of grapevines next to the house, and we picked the grapes because if we didn't, the birds would have eaten them all :) And we squeezed about 10 liters of juice. Unlike Lola's, this juice is extremely sweet, almost like drinking syrup. You have to mix it with water.

Let's move on. Another beer awaits me, a classic lager from Thailand.
Chang Classic
Brewed by Thai Beverage PLC, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon, Thailand. Can, 0.33 l, alcohol 5.0% ABV, IBU 12. Lager.
What do the Master Brewers say?
Contents from fine quality malt, rice, and hops, with natural water, and selected yeast.
They didn't put much effort into the description... from what I've read, it's a big, macro brewery; maybe they don't even care that much.
The beer is a clear yellow color, with average foam that disappears quickly. It has no particular taste. It goes down smoothly, with sweetness dominating the palate. Some have mentioned rice, but I don't taste it, nor do I taste the bitterness of hops. The aftertaste disappears quickly.
The beer is drinkable, but nothing special. A below-average lager, far from the classic, if you ask me. But it's definitely drinkable, so there's nothing wrong with it. If it's the only thing available, I'll drink it, of course :) They also used rice in the process, but I didn't notice it in the taste. It is available at the local Lidl, and the price is reasonable, at €1.13.

And what am I listening to when writing this and tasting beer? Something from Friday's New Tunes selection.
