Marc Marquez sweeps the Aragon Grand Prix of the MotoGP world championship at the Motorland circuit, taking a considerable lead in the championship and aiming for his ninth title, tying living legend Valentino Rossi.
The Aragon Grand Prix was the eighth date of the championship, in a season that, if not for some mistakes by Marc Marquez, would be a complete hegemony. This is Marc's fourth win on Sundays, consolidating his lead, as I have already told you, by a difference of 32 points over his brother Alex Marquez. On the other hand, we have Pecco Bagnaia, in a year that is being a year to forget for the Italian rider, who is third in the season, but 93 points behind the leader. This weekend leaves many things to analyze, to draw some conclusions of what could be the rest of the 2025 campaign of the premier class of motorcycling.
The Ducati rider and current championship leader (Marc Marquez) had no rival this weekend, because in the first free practice on Friday he was the leader, taking almost a second in time to the next rider in the time table, which was Alex Marquez. This is a situation that really surprised me, as I had never seen it before, such a wide difference between first and second, a category that was very tight, but there we see the difference of Marc with the rest, showing the talent he has and that he takes full advantage of his bike.

Since FP1 (the first free practice) I had no doubt that Marc was the rider to beat, but I had the doubt if anyone would get closer to him to give him more of a fight in the following sessions. In the following practices the gap closed with a difference of a little more than one or two tenths of a second, where Alex, his brother, thought he could at least give him some fight in the races. Qualifying was so predictable with what I had seen in practice, a Marc Marquez breaking the track record with a time of 01:45.704, taking almost three tenths off Alex who was second and Franco Morbidelli who was third. Francesco Bagnaia was fourth but six tenths behind his teammate Marc.
In the sprint race there were no surprises, Marc took the win with more than two seconds over Alex Marquez and more than four seconds over Fermin Aldeguer, Alex's teammate at Gresini Racing. Remember that Gresini is a satellite team using last year's Ducati bikes, which tells us how competitive the Italian bike was last year and still is this year, but only Marc Marquez is the one who can take it as he wants, beyond some setbacks that have been presented to him. The victory of the eldest Marquez and rider with the official Ducati bike is the seventh of the season as far as sprint races are concerned.
Bagnaia loses more and more ground in the championship, in the sprint race he had a complicated day, with a crash that relegated him to the 12th position despite this, but going to the ground cost him to enter the points. The good thing was that he was able to get back on track and at least take the checkered flag. I think the pace was there to finish in the top three, but certainly the two-time MotoGP champion's season has been increasingly disappointing, which has left several conspiracy theories. Pecco's goal for today's feature race at Aragon was to get a good result and if possible the win, although this was far from reality for me personally.
