Hello dear friends of Jewelry, I hope you are all doing well. I send my warmest regards to all the artists who always surprise this beautiful community with their great work. We are still in the month of August, which, along with July, shares the Leo zodiac sign. It is for them that I made a wooden pendant carved with the Leo constellation. This is also because I belong to this sign, and last July 29th was my birthday. It was a special date because for me it was filled with a lot of reflection about the things I want in my life from now on, so through this piece, I symbolize the result of my reflections. The sign is related to the mythical Nemean Lion, an invulnerable beast that terrorized the fields and was the first labor Hercules had to complete. Hercules, realizing that no weapon could hurt the lion due to its impenetrable hide, strangled it with his bare hands. To honor his son's feat, Zeus placed the lion in the sky, thus creating the constellation Leo. With this in mind, I briefly present this beautiful piece, which I carefully crafted. Let's begin!
Hola queridos amigos de Jewelry, espero que todos se encuentren muy bien, envió un gran saludos a todos aquellos artistas que siempre sorprenden con sus grandes obraen esta linda comunidad. Estamos aún en el mes de Agosto, quien junto al mes de Julio comparten el signo Leo del zodiaco, y es por ellos que he realizado un Dije tallado en madera con la constelación de Leo, también porque pertenezco a este signo y el pasado 29 de julio fue mi cumpleaños. Fue una fecha especial porque par ami estuvo llena de mucha reflexión acerca de las cosas que quiero en mi vida de ahora en adelante, así que a través de esta pieza simbolizo el resultado de mis reflexiones. El signo se relaciona con el mítico León de Nemea, una bestia invulnerable que aterrorizaba los campos y que fue el primer trabajo que Hércules tuvo que completar. Hércules, al darse cuenta de que ninguna arma podía herir al león debido a su piel impenetrable, lo estranguló con sus propias manos. Para honrar la hazaña de su hijo, Zeus colocó al león en el cielo, creando así la constelación de Leo. Con esto en mente les presento de forma breve esta hermosa pieza que he realizado con mucho cuidado, comencemos!

I used reddish-colored mahogany wood, which came from the remnants of an old mirror frame. The piece isn't very large, and it served my purpose. I didn't want to make it too ostentatious, but rather something simple yet striking. I didn't make it square, but rather circular. I used a coin as a template to make the circle, and the size seemed perfect.
Utilicé madera color rojiza, madera caoba, esta viene de los restos de un viejo marco de espejo. La pieza no es muy grande y sirve a mi propósito, no quiero hacer la pieza muy ostentosa en tamaño, sino algo simple pero llamativo. No la hice de forma cuadrada sino de forma circular, utilicé como plantilla una moneda para hacer el círculo y el tamaño me pareció perfecto.

Once the wood was selected and the circle for the pendant was made, the excess pieces had to be cut off at each corner of the piece. To save time and effort, I used a saw, which removed most of the excess wood without compromising the circle design. I'll then shape it with one of the blades.
Luego seleccionada la madera y de hacer el círculo para el dije, había que cortar las partes sobrantes en cada esquina de la pieza. Para ahorrar tiempo y esfuerzo utilicé una sierra, con la cual removí la mayor parte de la madera sobrante sin comprometer el dibujo del círculo. Este luego me encargaré de darle forma con una de las cuchillas.

Now I begin working on the piece, using the box cutter to trim and remove all the excess wood that I hadn't previously cut with the saw. On some sides of the piece, there were extra millimeters, so I cut slowly and patiently, following the trace of the pencil drawing I had previously made. In this way, I circle the entire figure until I have a nearly perfect carved circle.
Ahora si comienzo el trabajo con la pieza, utilizando el cúter voy recortando y removiendo toda la madera que sobró y que no corté anteriormente con la sierra. En algunos lados de la pieza había más milímetros, así que poco a poco y con paciencia fui cortando, siguiendo el rastro del dibujo que antes había hecho con lápiz. Así voy rodeando toda la figura hasta tener un círculo tallado casi perfecto.

After cutting the piece, some adjustments were needed, especially on the surface, which was somewhat uneven since I had reduced some of its thickness with a knife. To polish it, I used sandpaper until the wood was smooth. I also sanded the edges to make the circular figure even more polished.
Luego de cortar la pieza había que hacerle algunso ajustes, especialmente en la superficie la cual se encontraba algo irregular ya que había reducido con la navaja parte de su grosor, así que para pulirla utilicé una lija hasta quedar lisa la madera. De igual forma lijé por los bordes para dejar la digura circular aún mejor hecha.

Next, I began drawing the constellation Leo. Its distinctive shape, resembling a resting lion, has been used as a navigational guide for millennia. Did you know that the earliest evidence of its recognition dates back to Mesopotamia, around 4000 BC? That's a long time, but it shows us that stargazing is always a beautiful thing.
Después comencé a dibujar la constelación de Leo, su forma distintiva la cual se asemeja a un león en reposo, ha sido utilizada como guía de navegación desde hace milenios. ¿Sabían ustedes que las evidencias más tempranas de su reconocimiento datan de Mesopotamia, alrededor del 4000 a.C.? Es una barbaridad de tiempo, pero eso nos enseña que mirar a las estrellas siempre es algo hermoso.

The next step, after drawing the constellation, was to carve out each of the stars that make it up. I used a small screwdriver to make each tiny hole one by one to make a star. Then I used another tip to go deeper and clean up the holes.
En el siguiente paso, luego de hacer el dibujo d ela constelación fue tallar cada una de las estrellas que la conforman. Utilicé un pequeño destornillador para hacer uno por uno cada pequeño agujero para que fuera una estrella. Y luego utilicé otra punta para profundizar y limpiar.

To complete the constellation shape and mark the path that makes it look like a lion, I begin cutting the drawn lines that connect each point. I use one of the gouges, sharpening it slightly to make the cut quick and precise. Once finished, I sand the piece again and smooth the edges to give it a curved shape.
Para completar la figura de la constelación y señalar el camino que hacen que se pueda ver como un león, comienzo a cortar las líneas dibujadas que unen a cada punto. Utilizo una de las gubias a las cuales les saco un poco de filo para hacer el corte rápido y preciso. Una evz terminado vuelvo a lijar la pieza otra vez y suaviso los bordes para que quede con uan forma curva.

To finish the piece, I cut a small hole at the top to attach a ring for the necklace. Then I dipped the pendant in glitter varnish to give it a more beautiful and durable finish.
Finalizando la pieza abri un pequeño agujero en la parte superior para colocar una argolla para el collar. Luego sumergí el dije en barniz brillantes para darle un acabado mas hermoso y duradero.
This is how this piece was finished. What do you think of the result? The color of this wood is simply stunning. After the varnish, it acquired that reddish hue, worthy of the Leo sign, known as one of the symbols of fire. I hope you enjoyed this necklace, full of meaning and reflection. One of the lessons I learned is that you have to renew yourself. If you've ever been through a situation that made you question everything, even your life, and miraculously got out of it, never fall into that place again. You overcame it, and there's no need to look back; just gather strength, renew yourself, and move forward. Thank you all very much.
Así quedó finalizada esta pieza, ¿Qué les parece el resultado? El color de esta amdera es sencillamente impresionante, luego del efecto del barniz obtuvo ese tonor rojizo, digno del signo Leo, conocido como uno de los símbolos de fuego. Espero les haya gustado este collar, lleno de mucho significado y reflexión, una de las que aprendí es que hay que renovarse, y si algunas vez pasaste por una situación que te hizo cuestionar todo, hasta tu vida y de una forma milagrosa saliste de ahí, jamás vuelvas a caer en ese lugar.
