Our home is always full of life. As a father of three children, there’s always something to do — a task to finish, a call to answer, or a situation that needs a quick hand. And in those rare moments of rest, there they are: our beloved pets — dogs, cats, rabbits, a hamster, and a parrot. This time, I’ll write about our little feline family.

This cheerful group consists of Mimica — the proud mother; Lisičić — Mimica’s nephew (the son of her sister who is no longer with us); and Lusi, Mari, and Berlioz — Mimica’s kittens. Their names were chosen by my son Aleksandar after reading The Aristocats.
Mama Mimica is a versatile cat — modest, obedient, and affectionate, loved by everyone. From the very first day, she knew exactly what’s allowed and what’s not, both inside and outside the house. She’s a skilled huntress — we often find her “trophies” on the doorstep: colorful feathers from birds, bits of field mice, moles, or insects. Whenever the door opens, her soft meow and deep blue eyes seem to say she’s ready for another conversation. And right behind her follows the cheerful feline crew from high society.

After the usual “battle” around the food bowls, their carefree playtime begins — jumping, chasing, meowing, climbing on the car, the woodpile in the garden, or disappearing into the bushes — who knows where else! They’re also quite friendly with our dog Milica, a mixed breed we adopted from a shelter a few months ago. Their games often end with them napping on her back.

When it comes to food — there’s no compromise. Each has their own bowl: dry mix for kittens, leftovers from our meals, milk, and wet food from pouches (they adore salmon). There’s also the occasional treat — a piece of pancake with chocolate cream, a bite of cake, cherry pie, or grandma’s honey pastry. With their sweet voices and deep belly purrs, they always manage to get exactly what they want from us.
My son’s favorite is Lusi — a true copy of her mom in both looks and temperament. They often spend time together on the trampoline; while Aca gently pets her and reads children’s stories, Lusi purrs softly and cuddles in his lap, perfectly content.

A typical October afternoon — our well-known feline crew sitting in the living room window, soaking up the last rays of sun and enjoying the warmth of Indian summer after a hearty meal. Maybe a mouse or a bird passes by their sight, but at that moment, I doubt even a fly landing on their ears would bother them. Pure bliss!

And as for the mess around the yard and in the house — I’ll stay silent on that subject 😜. You’d better ask my wife — she might tell that story better!
