It was raining this morning which was a nice change. I never thought I'd say that living in the UK where it rains quite a bit but we've had quite a dry spell so it's good to see the rain again. As I am house and cat sitting for a friend I popped down to their local reservoir and nature reserve. I parked up and hardly anyone was about.

I walked over the metal bridge up to the stone bridge.

This is the view of the reservoir from the top of the bridge.

Even though it was raining, it was still quite dry underfoot.

There was a grebe swimming near the tree at the edge of the water. I don't normally see them this close. It soon shot off when it saw me.

If you walk past an oak tree some acorns may look odd like mutant acorns. This is because a gall wasp has laid its eggs on the tree, which then produces a kind of casing around the larvae where it will feed and grow inside. This kind of gall is called a Knopper Gall but there's many different types. The wasp will eventually eat its way out.

I managed to do one circuit of the reservoir until the rain started to get heavy, so I gave up for the day.
