The time machine doesn't exist, it's obvious, don't you think, but sometimes things as simple as, for example, a song, take you back in time. This song transported me back to my adolescence, back in the early 2000's and then some. I was never a rebellious kid, far from it, the most rebellious thing I ever encountered was, at least in terms of music, since I didn't even have any fights with anyone that I remember. But musically what I knew musically was Rock, thanks to one of these characters that one meets in the course of life, a high school classmate who for his musical tastes, as well as appearance, he was called "the geek". But in affectionate nickname mode, nothing of mockery or anything like that, he was "a super healthy guy" and generally liked by everyone. Today I will talk about my process of acceptance of Rock as a genre, but not just any Rock. There are many bands, each with their own unique style. I remember that at that time, my adolescence was influenced by many musical genres, consuming all kinds of music. I didn't know or know a mother of English, I don't hide to say it, but I love all Anglo-Saxon music. Let's say rap, hip-hop, rock, country, etc., in short, all of it, send it over here. And on the Latin side, same story, I listen to the same thing, a bolero, a salsa, a montuno, whatever. And yes, I was also one of those who listened and danced to a lot of Reguetón from Puerto Rico, the one we now affectionately call "Reguetón de la mata", as if to call it somehow the classics, due to the longevity of those who started this Caribbean musical content. Genre that like everything new was criticized in its beginnings by many other artists who branded them with the sentence of not lasting long and now they are making the genre, leaving their styles characters for the simple fact of reaching the youth and sell for becoming obsolete. And also why not, fans also of what came later, I like everything that is music, but be careful, music, not noise or vulgarities, although "the Cuban cast", and is another thing, in short does not come to the subject. I continue with the story of this friend "the geek", of whom I have no idea what happened to his life after high school. But we did have a very different taste, I used to listen to Eminem, 50 centavos, and other American hip-hop artists, before being invaded by Puerto Rican Reguetón. This friend of mine from class told me in a mocking tone that this was not music, obviously it was not his genre, but as I am always characterized by being passive, observant, a good listener, I told him to show me some of what he considered music. He told me with these words, "you're too contaminated with hip hop, US pop, all that, so I'm going to give you a dose of both things united in one, infallible mix". It was there at that moment when, after school at his house, he played me his stereo with a fabulous band, I met Linkin Park. The way they combined both styles was pure adrenaline, coincidence or experiment, I don't think so. But the most explosive thing about this band, was that it was not only a voice with rock music, all its members did their own thing winning over the fans with their style both in the videos and on stage. But as time went by, this genre didn't last long in my music folder. Hardly this particular band, Evanescente, and others that I don't even remember the name of, but they sounded in that kind of boom of the 2000s. We thought we had lost this Linkin Park style when, tragically, the band's lead singer physically disappeared. We were totally shocked at how a person who seemingly looked happy on the outside; on the inside, felt like the lyrics to the song One More Light. In summary, not to make my commentary too long, I must say that the return of this band is very much appreciated. And I hope that their fans, more than comparisons, between the lack of the original vocalist, which is more than clear that no one will match, nor want to match. Well, rather, everyone will be grateful for the return of the best that can be heard in metal music, in this particular genre that they knew how to share, with no intention of competing with fans of other bands, is my criterion. I think that the new vocalist of the band, has earned her place in the band, with a powerful voice, of which, more than comparing it with the original, I enjoy the style. But therein lies the detail of the success of Linkin Park's new album, that much more than going to seek new musical frontiers, they cleverly sought a content that reminds the band's fans of what they once were, or will be. Since music travels in time, as this new song "Two Faced" made me travel, for me it is the closest thing to the beginning of the band. I loved this song when it came up for me by chance on YouTube as the global trend that the band has been becoming. I say again that it is appreciated to have them back in the music playlists of every fan, let's say "the old school" or those who will be arriving little by little enlisting with this peculiar musical genre. Thank you "el fliki" for showing me Linkin Park, thank you Chester Bennington for giving us your voice, talent, and peace be with you legend. The audiovisuals used in the post were given the sources.
