Hello to everyone in this beautiful music community. I have the pleasure of sharing my trumpet performance of "Mary, Did You Know?", a beautiful gospel ballad composed by Buddy Greene and Mark Lowry, is inspired by rhetorical questions to Mary, the mother of Jesus of Nazareth. The lyrics are charming and poetic, speaking of the divinity of the Son of God, his origins, and his miracle-filled life. I first heard it in an a cappella version by Pentatonix. It's a very popular song in choral groups and some Christmas TV commercials. The original version is in the key of C major; in my case, I perform it in E major. The melodic contour is intimate, with intervals of thirds to ask questions. This ballad has a slow, reflective tempo, with a time signature of 4/4. The piano in the background is wonderful; it's like a whisper to the heart.

Those of us who are parents will identify with my words. Many times we talk to our children and it seems like we're talking to a wall. The way we process things is very different when we are children, young people, and adults. A child can be playing and at the same time be attentive to their surroundings and their parents' instructions. Then you ask them what they understood, and they clearly tell you what they were instructed to do. As people grow older, the practice of listening becomes more selective. We listen to what we like, what interests us, and what is important to us. I believe that one of the skills humanity must cultivate is listening. We may not like warnings, but some are life-or-death. A positive exercise is to practice the skill of listening, such as listening to a child or an elderly person. This practice helps us understand that it is often better to listen than to speak.

Mary, Did You Know?

Mary did you know that your baby boy Will one day walk on water? Mary did you know that your baby boy Will save our sons and daughters? Did you know that your baby boy Has come to make you new? This child that you've delivered Will soon deliver you

Mary, did you know that your baby boy Will give sight to a blind man? Mary, did you know that your baby boy Will calm a storm with his hand? Did you know that your baby boy Has walked where angels trod? And when you kiss your little baby You've kissed the face of God Oh, Mary did you know Ooh...

The blind will see The deaf will hear The dead will live again The lame will leap The dumb will speak The praises of the lamb

Mary did you know that your baby boy Is Lord of all creation? Mary did you know that your baby boy Will one day rule the nations? Did you know that your Baby Boy Is Heaven's perfect Lamb? This sleeping child you're holding Is the great I Am!
