Whenever I get to a certain part of the city I know I have to take a walk in a park. I live in a big city with few parks. I thought there were many but I found out that in relation to the area and the number of inhabitants, we have a lack of green space. That's according to European standards. I hope that some more green spaces will be created, in order to comply with the rules but, above all, to improve the quality of air and life in the city.
There's a park that's not too big but has something special. A small pond in the middle of it and the pond is full of lotuses. For many years I didn't know this, only chance made me enter the park and see the sea of white-pink flowers and leaves as big as elephant ears.
No longer the sea of pink and white flowers now, in late October. The lotuses started flowering in July and now, obviously, the flowering period is over...
The park was built in a pit, a place where more than a hundred years ago there was a brick factory. Several springs soon filled the pond. Circus Park in Bucharest, Romania.
A park as an oasis of greenery in a city full of concrete and glass.
This is a park-like magnet for me. If I end up in this area, no matter how busy I am, I find at least half an hour to take a little walk and see the lotuses.
I feel like I've developed an obsession, sort of, with this park. A pleasant and not dangerous obsession. Every walk in this park is not only about looking for lotuses but also about taking dozens of photos. Because the flowers were gone, I was now more drawn to the reflections in the pond water.
Mid-autumn comes with pastel colors. Parks are at their most beautiful in spring and autumn.
Although the lotuses are the main attraction of the park, it's not the only thing that makes any walk enjoyable. Small creatures, especially birds, have found a good home here. First and foremost the wild ducks.
Pigeons, again, ubiquitous. An eminent city bird.
And first and foremost, beyond the lotuses, ducks, and pigeons, the masters of the parks are children. For urban children, this is where they settle in and understand what nature is. I'll end with an image I like a lot. The two generations together.
The generation of grandparents and grandchildren. The two extremes of life. One preparing to leave and one eager to discover the world.
