Let me show you today what happened with our driveway over the last 5 days. 😳 We went from 63 cm of snow and -15 Degrees Celsius. 🥶 To : plus 6 degrees Celsius for 4 days in a very short time… back to -10 daytime and -17 degrees Celsius nighttime… what is most of the day as we only have 6 hours of daylight right now. (Luckily it is stretching now… as 3 hours was just toooooo short last month 😁) Come and check out the changes.

On January the 8th we had 63 cm of snow on the driveway. (We did clear a path for the car to get down the mountain 😋 every day with new snow since 1 November)

As we knew over the weekend it would be #defrosting further as it was 6 degrees Celsius last week and the nights would be #freezing again. We went grocery shopping on Friday. The roads were very tricky… a thick layer of ice already. Don't let the water fool you the road surface is much deeper down. It was slip and slide everywhere. Even though we have #spikes in our tires. 😳🫣

Saturday around noon our driveway turned into a thick layer of #SOLID #ice 🧊 🥶😱

We have spikes as you can see in the next #photo, but even though they provide more #traction. They won’t help much on 10 cm solid ice on a slope. See the ice underneath and around the tire 🛞 Friday when we drove back home from the grocery store (1,5 hours away) we had trouble getting up our steep mountain. The last stretch to our cabin. We slipped and were sliding back around the corner. It took several attempts to get enough traction to get up. Hahaha 🤣

We knew we would probably get down, but not back up again if we needed to go out. Luckily we didn’t have to go anywhere anytime soon 😊 as we are #renovating the inside of the cabin. I captured a few photographs of the icy driveway…

Just look at it 😳 I could barely walk with iron spikes under my boots 🥾 perfect for #ICESKATING ⛸️⛸️⛸️

I managed half way on our driveway hahaha 🤣

It is so icy ❄️ the sky and trees are reflecting in it 🫣

This is Saturday 12:14h the sun is getting already behind the top of the mountains 🏔️

We decided let’s try to break up a bit of the ice… we knew we wouldn’t get deep enough… but we did manage at least to rough it up a bit. Here hubby breaking the ice 🧊 with a pitchfork.

See what I mean. It is much rougher now, in case we needed to get out. It provided for a good workout 🏋️ haha Yes, I helped too.

Sunday it did solidify a little… still very very icy ❄️ This winter is definitely not normal. 🫣 last winter there was 3 meter of snow ⛄️ this winter we didn't reach 1 meter at the cabin yet.

Luckily last night and today… (all day) It have been snowing ❄️ again. See this photo was taken this morning at 9:10h and the snow covered most of the ice on the driveway. When I went out this morning to feed the birds 🐦 and squirrels 🐿️ and deer 🦌, the snow was very LIGHT and FLUFFY. I sinked in right back to the ice layer. We did make new paths this morning but didn’t scrape it all away. We padded down the light snow to make a good solid layer of snow over the next days.

It will provide us with more traction to walk and next week to drive to the grocery store again. 😊
