You just gotta see this.

I said in yesterday's post, that it was almost a wind still day. 038.jpg

So, from the farm we popped down to a dam on the local golf course.

It is still cold here, but ever so slowly winter has started to lose its grip. Sunny days are rare, and we make maximum use of them. Even if we have things to attend to, we try to juggle them around so we can spend some time in the sun. With my camera, of course:)) We have many five-star golf courses in the country, but this one is the closest to us, and it also saves travelling time with our car.

The birds are building nests all over, as they want their babies to be born when Spring arrives so that they can grow strong during summer to survive the next winter. Very clever, and nature certainly has it all right, as if the birds are born later in summer, they will not survive the next winter. I will show you something that the birds use at the bottom of this post. For now, let's enjoy the reflections.

See that line on the mountain range? It is not a cloud, and rather a farm far off that is doing a controlled waste burn. Heaps of waste build up on the farms, as the vineyards and the citrus trees are trimmed during the last weeks of winter. And it is essential for the burns to take place on a wind still day. 013.JPG

But it made for some great artistic viewing, as you will see below. 040.JPG

The smoke cloud has not reached this section of the mountain range yet, but the colors are beautiful. 026.JPG

Nature's own bird nesting material.

I saw this next to the dam, and it is called a Bulrush (Typha capensis). 047.JPG

They have fine and soft cotton-like material inside the bulrush, and when it opens then this happens. The round one at the front in the picture above has only started to open.

And some big birds were already shaping their nests with the bulrush material. 062.JPG

Did I say that nature has got all things right? Sadly, it is only mankind that cannot understand this. We have seen reed fields being cut away so that development could take place. The reeds normally grow near rivers, and the wetlands act like a filter to clean the water, and it is essential not to touch them. But this is not the case, as even shopping centers are built on the wetlands.

We have seen the cracks in the walls and columns of a big shopping center that was built on a wetland and also cracks in the walls of a residential block of flats. This is due to the wetlands having deep levels of mud and clay, and it is the clay that causes the damages as clay moves. Buildings don't like movement below them, and it is costing developers a fortune in repairs. Such is life.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures and the story.
