On Saturday morning after a horrible night of leg pain, I got up at 6:15AM and fed the dying cat. All I had planned was not happening. My leg was a lot better due to the cold packs, but I was too exhausted to even think about going outside.

This amaryllis flowered last on May 22, 2025. It had great huge leaves all summer until about 3 weeks ago when it got knocked off its table. The leaves were badly damaged and eventually died. But a few days ago it sent up this huge flower stalk. And I noticed that it has started growing 3 new leaves. The tall leaves on the left belong to a small bulb that appeared over the winter.

Plant labels need repair crop July 2025.jpg

I had several plant labels for the New Herb garden that needed repair. But before I started that, I got my post up and later got the kitchen cleaned up.

Tom showed up around 7AM to do the foliar feeding. The garden is really showing the effects of the improved recipe for the foliar, much less bug damage and almost no powdery mildew. Unfortunately it hasn’t had an effext on the hollyhock rust.

He noticed an odd growth on the serviceberry in the Little Trees. And in looking at the trees, I found the stump we’d made cutting down the root stalk on the North Star cherry had well over a dozen sprouts at least 2’ long. The cherry wasn’t looking so good as a result. Those sprouts need removed, but it wasn’t something I could tackle on Saturday.

The Contender peach tree still has a couple peaches, but the leaf growth is VERY thick. We will have major pruning to do again late next winter.

I got the old labels off the stakes and cleaned up, then set about making new labels.

I laminate them twice, the second time with reinforcement where they are stapled. You can see the gray reinforcement on the Nicotiana label.

I found better taller stakes and got them stapled on then cleaned up the mess. It’s so nice having a neat clean office!

There were 7 for the 1st 3 rows in the New Herb garden. If I ever get back out in that garden, there will probably be more needing repair.

I finished about noon and went in to watch a movie. About a half hour later, my leg started to hurt again. So I made up the cold pack again and strapped it to my leg with an ace bandage.

Saturday would have been my husband’s 73 birthday. Except for the leg, I made it through okay.

The cold pack soon relieved most of the pain. Later I went to bed for a nap and woke up at 4PM when my brother got home. He was taking the truck down to fill it and all the gas cans up.

I plan to try to sleep with the cold pack on all night in hopes I will be able to get the green peas picked before I have to mow on Sunday. Mowing is both the house and barn and will take 3 – 4 hours to do. It’s to be a cool cloudy day so it won’t be too bad.
