Nice late summer morning crop August 2025.jpg

It was a lovely morning on Friday. I was up at 4:30AM and not feeling quite as I should.

During the night, at precisely 3AM, I heard what sounded like firecrackers going off rapidly, then the sound of a tree landing on a sheet metal roof. It came in the east window vs the north window. There was nothing I could do about it so I went back to sleep.

Once my post was up, I went up and got the mail then armed with my camera, went to check the barn. I checked both ends as I couldn’t get behind it for all the poison ivy. Nothing.

Well, on the off chance it had been the Tonka garage which also has a sheet metal roof, I checked that. Nothing.

There was no commotion from the stable north of me, so it wasn’t any structure of theirs. So it had to be the neighbor to the south.

I sat for a little while and then headed back to bed until 7:45AM. I was so exhausted.

My helper friend would be back at 8AM and we’d try to make something of the fritter mess.

I had put the fritters I’d made Thursday afternoon in the fridge. I had him re-cook them and they came out well. But he likes well done and I dislike burnt and as you can see, he let some go too far. I reminded him I didn’t like burnt and he was more careful with the rest. (He took the big photo.)

We ended up with 11 meals for the freezer. And I got a note from @sunscape that she’d left flour out of the posted recipe. I told her that I would have left it out anyways as I’m trying to do keto.

So here’s her revised recipe to accommodate no flour. They came out very good indeed!

I didn’t get anything but a 2½ hour nap done in the afternoon. I just felt so exhausted.

My oldest brother called at suppertime. The tractor had been taken apart, the clutch and fly wheel were rusted together, and the mechanic would be ordering parts. Nothing else seemed amiss, but there are several long overdue things he will attend to, like hydraulic hoses, etc.

Saturday is to be a gorgeous day and I’m hoping resting for 2 days, more or less, will allow me to get out to the gardens. I’m hoping to finish the Small garden and maybe start on the New Herb weeding. We’ll see…
