A brand new trailer has finally landed for the upcoming sci-fi action flick The Predator (2018), which is a sequel of sorts I guess? It fits somewhere in the franchise but isn't a reboot, kinda. Anyway, if the new trailer is anything to go by this could be quite a spectacle, with a new big bad being introduced in the form of a hybrid Yautja. You can also find the first trailer that was released roughly a month ago below this, which shows the film in a slightly different light and even upset some long-time fans.

Trailer #1 begins with a street full of trick-or-treaters, so I guess it's safe to presume this is the end of October, and then we're taken to a room with a kid, who I happen to know is Autistic and also a large plot device, opening a box that contains some weird looking toys, or perhaps they are alien artifacts? Spoiler, they're alien artifacts. As he is playing with his new toy, we see an alien spacecraft crashing down to Earth. Uh-oh.
It's mainly this scene that seems to have pissed off a few people, and I can understand why. It didn't fill me with hope for this new addition to the Predator franchise, but I try not to judge films by their trailers. This first trailer also hints at the hybridisation of the Yautja, mixed in with lots of seizure-shots, DUN!s and explosions.
This new trailer doesn't feature the autistic kid, but does feature a lot more of the Yautja including our first glimpse of the real bad guy in this movie; the hybrid Yautja. The Predator universe hasn't received quite as much attention as the Alien one, which is a shame especially given that in Predator 2 we were given an easter egg in the form of a Xenomorph skull aboard the ship. There's no shortage of material in the expanded universe, which treats the two universes as one and it would be nice to see something a bit more cohesive than the less-than-amazing AVP films. Predators released a few years ago was a perfectly enjoyable film, but didn't add anything really to the mythos and felt more like a soft reboot of the first film.
What did you make of the new trailer? Are you looking forward to the upcoming film? I'm not sure when it'll be hitting the silver screen, but with the trailers coming thick and fast it should be coming soon.
