Prisencólinensináinciúsol - I haven't fallen asleep on my keyboard, this is a song released by Italian multi-talented musician Adriano Celentano. The whole song is essentially gibberish, but put simply it's what American English sounds like to Italians. I think Adriano himself puts it best:
“Ever since I started singing, I was very influenced by American music and everything Americans did. So at a certain point, because I like American slang—which, for a singer, is much easier to sing than Italian—I thought that I would write a song which would only have as its theme the inability to communicate. And to do this, I had to write a song where the lyrics didn't mean anything.”
I find this track really interesting personally, as I've noticed that when first listening to a song that the lyrics will sound exactly like Prisencolinensinainciusol; I hear the intonations and sounds, but not as words in a very similar way to hearing a foreign language you don't understand. I've gotta say as well, I'm fairly proud of being able to say prizeŋkolinensinainˈtʃuːzol (thanks wikipedia!).
What did you make of the song? I think it's a funky beat even with the gibberish lyrics. Let me know what you think down in the comment section, I always like to hear your thoughts.
