Many denizens of the net will already know singer-songwriter George Miller, even if it's just through nerd osmosis. He is the mind that brought us Filthy Frank and Pink Guy of The Filthy Frank Show, and now that mind has been busy working on something different. George under his moniker Joji has dropped an EP titled In Tongues, and it's a lofi masterpiece.
I've personally been slowly but steadily getting more and more into lofi music. Lofi, in case you don't know, is both a new and not new genre of music, a kind of evolution from vaporwave that spread throughout YouTube, Soundcloud and Bandcamp. I'll be doing a full profile piece on lofi music over the next few weeks, so keep an eye out for that.
In Tongues is Joji's second project, after the successful Chloe Burbank: Volume 1 which came about as a result of two songs from the release being leaked in late 2015. This could be the first time parts of Joji's audience have been introduced to lofi, but responses so far have been overwhelmingly positive. One outlet described it as having a "... lack of truly dynamic moments..." which is a common feature of lofi music, maybe they just weren't aware of this.
I've been listening to the EP all day on repeat, and you can check it out in its entirety too via the YouTube video below. It's also available through most of the usual digital music providers, but no news on whether there's going to be a physical release. I'd love to see it printed in vinyl form, I'd definitely make it an addition to my collection.
