For years, I've seen memes and comments online from people complaining about the fact you can't play YouTube videos in the background or if the phone is locked. YouTube recently announced that you can now do all these things with YouTube Premium, and don't have to suffer through ads, but for a price. That's great in theory, however most people will never be willing to pay for YouTube (and Google, stop trying to plug videos and TV series there too, I ain't buying). That's where YouTube Vanced comes in.
YouTube Vanced is a modded version of the YouTube app for Android devices that comes with so many features, you'll wonder how you ever got on without it. With Vanced, you can block Ads (plus the ability to allow some and not others), allows for background playing, pinch to zoom plus so many other vital features that the YouTube official app is completely lacking, even with Premium enabled.
"But John," I hear you say, "my phone isn't rooted so this won't work for me!" Don't you worry, the Vanced team have got your back. Vanced works without the need for your device to be rooted, although there is also a rooted version available, which is great for those who prefer to leave their phones unaltered. I love rooting and tweaking my devices, but I tend to leave my phones as they are just because you want maximum stability for your main communications device.
You won't find Vanced in the Google Play Store, for good reasons, but just head on over to their official website, download the appropriate APK and if you're unrooted, make sure to grab the MicroG package too so that you can log in. This is needed because since the Vanced app is modded, it doesn't work with Play Services.
