Mr Robot is one of those rare TV gems, a blend of fantasy with realism. It's an American drama thriller television series created by Sam Esmail, and stars Christian Slater and Rami Malek as the lead Elliot. Elliot is a cyber-security engineer, and black hat hacker who has social anxiety disorder and depression. Elliot ends up joining a hacktivist group known only as F Society, recruited by a certain Mr Robot. The groups goal is the encrypt the financial data of the world's largest conglomerate, E-Corp (or Evil Corp as Elliot calls it) in an attempt to wipe out the world's debt.
The thing that seperates Mr Robot from other similarly themed shows is its realistic elements, particularly when it comes to the hacking. In fact, the show has received massive praise for its technical accuracy by numerous cyber security firms and services such as Avast, Kaspersky and numerous security bloggers and commentators. Esmail hired several experts in cyber-security as consultants for the show, and it really shows. From the second season the show even had help from the likes of Jeff Moss and Marc Rogers to assist him with the authenticity of the hacks and the technology being used.
The show receives nothing but praise and affection from it's fans, and for good reason too. This is easily one of my favourite shows of all time. I love that the story is mostly delivered from Elliot's perspective, in a similar fashion to Legion. Rami Malek is a really impressive actor, and he plays the role of troubled Elliot so well. If you haven't seen it already, make sure to add it to your watchlist, and pretty far up that list too. You can find it on Amazon Prime I think, and the USA channel in the US. There's three seasons to enjoy so far, with a fourth expected later this year.
