In my last beer post, I wrote about a hand-brewed cellar beer from Bavaria. I was not only surprised, but also totally thrilled by its wonderful, mild, slightly sweet, yet very beer-like taste. So it was obvious that I had to enthusiastically try the next beer of this type — a cellar beer — right away. It also happened that I had one left of my son's birthday party wich was planned to be a beer-tasting by his friends. Okay then!
ENGEL Biermanufaktur Kellerbier
Well.
I learned that not every cellar beer needs to taste the same.
I also learned that not every cellar beer has to taste good at all.
Maybe last time I just hat a lucky pick and I am not a cellar-beer girl at all?
Look and feel:
Here we have something in common with my previous cellar beer experience: dark, cloudy, with a nice, dense dark-white head. So far, so good.
Taste
Here we go. No sweetness, not even a hint of spice or perhaps malt. So all the things I loved with the other version (It was the "Zwick'l by the way). I would even go so far as to describe it as 'characterless'. Somehow bland. I'm really sorry to sound so negative this time, but I guess it has to be said. To really get the best out of this tasting of course I tried a ton of icecubes to make it better, but no. Even these couldn't change the sad situation. 🤷♀
Lets hope for a better pick next time.
