A look at the Technical School of Visual Arts (Eng/Esp)

In Cumaná art is cultivated, this city is a cradle of talents and there are schools and universities for the formation of artists, one of them is the Technical School of Visual Arts "Luis Rowlinson", institution belonging to the Ministry of Education and that works as a high school, for such reason each student that graduates receives the title of bachelor in Humanities mention Medium Technician in Art, preparation that would be the base for their entrance to the University of the Arts.  Located between Cantaura and Niquitao streets, the name of this educational center pays tribute to a painter who was born in this land in 1922. Among his merits is being the Director of the renowned Armando Reverón Art Workshop, which is located in Macuto, a parish in La Guaira state, a place that maintains the legacy of the well-known "Painter of Light".  In the Technical School of Visual Arts of Cumaná it is necessary to show talent when entering, for this reason each applicant is given an exploratory test to determine their skills in drawing, painting, sculpture, poetry, narrative and other disciplines related to art. The vocation is important because the journey, from the beginning to the end, takes six years, enough time for each young person to be aware of the path they will be following and what they can achieve in life with the degree they will be awarded.  One of the institution's initiatives is for each graduating class to design and paint the façade and other areas of the physical plant. As can be seen in the photographs, the recent graduating class designed a concept that fuses abstract art with chromatism, land and sea combine to present a recognizable perspective, the view from Cumaná towards the Araya peninsula, with a hand clutching a paintbrush and a palette of colors that expands a luminous halo symbolizing the sun, an effect that is perfectly appreciated in the calligraphy.  Being a constant demand, each generation that is about to graduate assumes the challenge of presenting an innovative proposal that is more impressive than the previous one, that is why this mural has changed so much in the last twenty years. It should be noted that before the establishment of both this school and the headquarters of the University of the Arts, which is located next door, these spaces were the headquarters of the Red Cross and then the Children's Hospital of Cumaná, which was inaugurated in 1945 and closed its doors in 1968, so the classrooms and the internal space do not look ideal for teaching classes and it is because the original design of the physical plant was conceived as a medical facility. 

En Cumaná se cultiva el arte, esta ciudad es una cuna de talentos y existen escuelas y universidades para la formación de artistas, una de ellas es la Escuela Técnica de Artes Visuales "Luis Rowlinson", institución perteneciente al Ministerio de Educación y que funciona como un liceo, por tal razón cada estudiante que egresa recibe el título de bachiller en Humanidades mención Técnico Medio en Arte, preparación que sería la base para su ingreso a la Universidad de las Artes.  Ubicado entre la calle Cantaura con Niquitao, el nombre de este centro educativo rinde homenaje a un pintor que nació en esta tierra en el año de 1922. Entre sus méritos figuran ser el Director del reconocido Taller de Arte Armando Reverón, el cual se encuentra en Macuto, parroquia del estado La Guaira, lugar que mantiene vigente el legado del conocido "Pintor de la luz".  En la Escuela Técnica de Artes Visuales de Cumaná es necesario mostrar talento al ingresar, por tal razón a cada aspirante se le realiza una prueba exploratoria para determinar sus habilidades en lo que respecta al dibujo, la pintura, la escultura, la poesía, la narrativa y otras disciplinas relacionadas con el arte. La vocación es importante porque el recorrido, desde el inicio hasta el final, es de seis años, tiempo suficiente para que cada joven asuma con consciencia el camino que estará transitando y lo que puede lograr en la vida con el título que le van a otorgar.  Una de las iniciativas de la institución es que cada generación que está por egresar diseñe y pinte la fachada y otras áreas de la planta física. Como se aprecia en las fotografías, la reciente promoción de bachilleres diseñó un concepto que fusiona el arte abstracto con el cromatismo, la tierra y el mar se combinan para presentar una perspectiva reconocible, la vista desde Cumaná hacia la península de Araya, con una mano aferrada a un pincel y una paleta de colores que expande un halo luminoso que simboliza el sol, efecto que se aprecia a la perfección en la caligrafía.  Al ser una exigencia constante, cada generación que está a punto de graduarse asume el reto de presentar una propuesta innovadora que sea más impactante que la anterior, por ello este mural ha cambiado tanto en los últimos veinte años. Es de hacer notar que antes de constituirse tanto esta Escuela como la sede de la Universidad de las Artes que está ubicada justo al lado, en estos espacios funcionaba la sede de la Cruz Roja y luego el Hospital de Niños de Cumaná que fue inaugurado en el año de 1945 y cerró sus puertas en 1968, por ello, las aulas de clases y el espacio interno no lucen ideales para impartir clases y es debido a que el diseño original de la planta física fue concebido como un recinto médico.
