A Reflective Walk (Eng/Esp)

The beach is a perfect place to feel nature and connect with the existential. To contemplate the sea in its immensity, mystery and eternity is to go beyond just sitting on the sand under the sun. On this occasion I did not go to the beach with the intention of bathing or having a relaxing time, since I went to the Civil Protection headquarters, located on Avenida Universidad, right on the shore of San Luis beach in Cumaná, to run an errand.  Once I finished the paperwork, I was ready to return to the center of the city, but the landscape stopped me, the image of the horizon gave me a sense of peace that made me forget the daily hustle and bustle. Gradually I approached the shore to feel the waves, the sound of the water breaking gently against the sand and the sea breeze blowing made me remember pleasant moments in my life, my first swims at the beach and the fear of the depth, not seeing my feet, drowning or a shark appeared to devour me.  Looking at a graffiti, a couple of crabs with their three little hatchlings, familiar images that took place on the beach of San Luis came to my mind. The sea is still there, just as I remember it, the same postcard that looks like an artistic work where the sky, the water and the mountains merge, a sample of eternity in contrast with the expiration of the human being.  For several years I kept the idea of living near the sea, of having a house on the beach that would also be my refuge from the vicissitudes of modernity. But gradually that desire gave way to other, higher priority desires, which, when achieved, make me feel very proud. Now I consider that the beach represents a magnificent landscape to carry in the soul, but not to linger and stay by its side while time passes only for me.   I really enjoyed this impromptu walk, I left my house with a purpose and it turns out that I stopped for a while to reflect from observing a very well kept area of San Luis beach.

La playa es un lugar perfecto para sentir la naturaleza y conectarnos con lo existencial. Contemplar el mar en su inmensidad, misterio y eternidad es ir más allá que simplemente sentarse en la arena bajo el sol. En esta ocasión no fui a la playa con la intención de bañarme o pasar un rato de esparcimiento ya que acudí a realizar una diligencia en la sede de Protección Civil, ubicada en la Avenida Universidad, en plena orilla de la playa de San Luis en Cumaná.  Una vez que finalicé el trámite, me dispuse a regresar al centro de la ciudad, pero el paisaje me detuvo, la imagen del horizonte me concedió una sensación de paz que me hizo olvidar el ajetreo cotidiano. Paulatinamente me fui acercando hasta la orilla para sentir el oleaje, ese sonido del agua rompiendo suavemente contra la arena y la brisa marina soplando me hizo recordar agradables momentos en mi vida, mis primeros baños en la playa y el miedo a la profundidad, a no ver mis pies, a ahogarme o a que un tiburón apareciera para devorarme.  Al observar un grafiti, una pareja de cangrejos con sus tres pequeñas crias, vinieron a mi mente imágenes familiares que transcurrieron con la playa de San Luis como escenario. El mar sigue allí, tal como lo recuerdo, la misma postal que parece una obra artística donde el cielo, el agua y las montañas se fusionan, una muestra de la eternidad en contraste con la caducidad del ser humano.  Durante varios años mantuve la idea de vivir cerca del mar, de tener una casa en la playa que también fuera mi refugio ante tantos avatares de la modernidad. Pero paulatinamente tal anhelo cedió paso a otros más prioritarios, los cuales, al lograrlos, me hacen sentir muy orgullosa. Ahora considero que la playa representa un paisaje magnífico para llevar en el alma, pero no para aletargarse y permanecer a su lado mientras el tiempo transcurre solamente para mí.   Me gustó mucho este paseo improvisado, salí de mi casa con un propósito y resulta que me detuve un buen rato para reflexionar a partir de observar una zona muy bien cuidada de playa San Luis.
