About three years ago, my husband and I enrolled in Unearte to study drawing and painting because we have both been attracted to art since we were children. For this reason, at home we have pencils, crayons, brushes, markers, paints of various types, palettes, canvases and white sheets, among other materials.
These days, while playing, the little bee, in her curiosity, discovered a box containing paintbrushes and a school tempera. Immediately, something in her changed, she began to remember the activities she does in the cognitive stimulation therapies. There she has been put to paint with brushes and she has done very well, showing mastery of the technique despite her young age.
Noticing her interest in painting, I sat her at a table and placed the materials within her reach: brushes, a palette, a cup with water, tempera and some recycling sheets. As if she were an expert, she began to prepare her palette of colors, primary on one side and secondary on the other. She can identify them, although she does not pronounce their names, she is able to point them out when she hears them.
Next to her I could observe that her skills allow her to make thick horizontal, diagonal and spiral strokes with the brush. Also that she concentrates on the activity, about 20 minutes elapsed in which she dedicated herself to painting the sheet by selecting colors. I really liked this aspect because she did not make a mess with the materials, avoided wasting paint on other surfaces, and took care not to spill the tempera on the table.
Watching little Alma spontaneously engage in brush painting was enjoyable, I feel great satisfaction when I can entertain her with activities that enrich her knowledge and skills, while she stays away from technology screens.
