State Order by Wang Shiyue (Eng/Esp)

**State Order** is a contemporary novel by writer Wang Shiyue that explores the limits of labor relations in China and leads us to question what the characteristics of a good boss are and to what extent loyalty exists when the company is approaching financial bankruptcy. The "boss" is the protagonist of this story, a humble man who managed to build a textile factory. Here also appears Li Xiang, his right-hand man, who proves his consideration and loyalty by staying in his position for six months without being paid, while the rest of the workers were also patient, spending four months in the same conditions, submerged in uncertainty and waiting for work. Li Xiang and the employer were friends for many years and later established a working relationship that precipitated the breakup because Xiang, as manager, needed to support his family, his pregnant wife is reason enough to leave the company and leave behind years of illusions, which was not to the employer's liking and he thinks he is a traitor.  In the midst of this tense relationship, the story shows us Charly Lai, who participates in the state bids and once he receives approval, he subcontracts the company of "The Boss" to carry out the work. Lai proves to be an unscrupulous individual who is capable of swindling his partners and embezzling money to profit from the efforts of others, a practice he repeats repeatedly. The presence of this type of officials in Chinese society allows us to see that corruption is also entrenched in the Asian nation. The level of sacrifice in trying to save a company is an important part of the plot as health and money are placed in the balance, with the factory staff leaning towards the latter as a priority. The proposal that Lai presents looks foolish, to produce 200,000 American flags in five days, which means that the workers will not have the right to rest until the mission is completed.  The historical and circumstantial context of **State Order** is the events of September 11, 2001, the attack on the Twin Towers in New York, which triggered the order of the flags. As can be seen, a world tragedy works as an incentive for the economy in China, a country whose labor force is the cheapest in the world and, for this reason, multinational companies have their headquarters there. In **State Order**, the making of transcendental decisions is relevant to the conclusion of the story. One of them is a lawsuit for the death of a worker, due to work fatigue, whose relatives demand a payment that compromises the company, so fulfilling the contract, in the same way the employer will witness the bankruptcy of his business, which breaks his physical and mental health.

**Pedido estatal** es una novela contemporánea del escritor Wang Shiyue que explora los límites de las relaciones laborales en China y nos lleva al cuestionamiento de cuáles serían las características de un buen jefe y hasta qué punto existe la lealtad cuando la empresa se aproxima a la quiebra financiera. El "patrón" es el protagonista de esta historia, un hombre humilde que logró levantar una fábrica de textiles. Acá también aparece Li Xiang, su mano derecha, quien prueba su consideración y lealtad quedándose en su cargo seis meses sin cobrar, en tanto el resto de los obreros, también fueron pacientes pasando cuatro meses en iguales condiciones, sumergidos en incertidumbre y a la espera de trabajo. Li Xiang y el patrón fueron amigos durante muchos años y más adelante establecieron una relación de trabajo que precipitó la ruptura porque Xiang, como gerente, necesitaba mantener a su familia, su esposa embarazada resulta motivo suficiente para irse de la compañía y dejar atrás años de ilusiones, lo cual no fue del agrado del patrón y piensa que es un traidor.

 En medio de esta tensa relación, la historia nos muestra a Charly Lai, quien participa en las licitaciones estadales y una vez que recibe la aprobación subcontrata a la empresa de "El patrón" para que realice el trabajo. Lai demuestra ser un individuo sin escrúpulos que es capaz de estafar a sus socios y malversar el dinero para lucrarse con el esfuerzo ajeno, práctica que repite en reiteradas ocasiones. La presencia de este tipo de funcionarios en la sociedad china nos permite advertir que la corrupción también está enquistada en la nación asiática. El nivel de sacrificio para intentar salvar una empresa es una parte importante en la trama ya que se coloca en una balanza la salud y el dinero, y el personal de la fábrica se inclina por lo segundo como prioridad. La propuesta que presenta Lai luce insensata, elaborar 200 000 banderas estadounidenses en cinco días, lo que significa que los trabajadores no tendrán derecho a descansar hasta completar la misión.  Como contexto histórico y circunstancial de **Pedido estatal** nos ubica en los sucesos del 11 de septiembre de 2001, el atentado contra las Torres Gemelas en Nueva York, lo que desencadenó el pedido de las banderas. Como se aprecia, una tragedia mundial funciona como incentivo para la economía en China, país cuya mano de obra es la más barata del mundo y, por tal razón, empresas multinacionales tienen sus sedes allí. En **Pedido estatal**, la toma de decisiones trascendentales resulta relevante para concluir la historia. Al asumir el riesgo de elaborar el pedido a toda costa, se presentan varios inconvenientes, uno de ellos es una demanda por la muerte de un obrero, debido a cansancio laboral, cuyos familiares exigen un pago que compromete a la empresa, así que cumpliendo con el contrato, de igual manera el patrón va a presenciar la quiebra de su negocio, lo cual hace que se quebrante su salud física y mental.
