Follow Friday: After the Fest

The News

I did not get to @hivefest this time and I have not kept up with all the news coming from there, so I suggest you check on what others have been reporting. I have seen posts from @louis88, @rmach, @akipponn, @solarwarrior, @mynewlife, @arcange, @thebeedevs and others. Check out the Hivefest community for more.

Prices from @coingecko

Development on Hive continues even if the price drops as it did a couple of weeks ago. You can see that others fell too. $LEO seemed not to suffer as much and is running at a similar level to $HIVE now.

A story I saw was from @clayboyn about wrapped $HIVE being on some exchanges. I do not fully understand this, but I think it makes it easier to buy some.

The @snapie project keeps evolving with a new version of the app released recently. They are also working on local video encoding. We need it to be as easy to post videos as it is on other platforms.

@peakd have a new notifications system that allows for more fine-tuning of what you see.

Friday Follows

  • I missed the payout date on this from @slothlydoesit, but there are some interesting thoughts on the value of Hive as a platform. I always say it is imperfect, but I prefer it to most others.
  • My favourite cartoonist on Hive @sidekickmatt has been playing with 'AI' to animate his creations. The results are impressive, but it raises questions about what sort of creativity we value.
  • @ssekulji and @driipam have been recruiting new Hivers around the rallying scene. I know people question the value of funding the race car, but we need to build up the community in all areas and rallying could be one to try for.
  • I did not realise how ill @theycallmedan had been, but he is on the mend.

The Dog House

Last year some of us got pestered by a user claiming to desperately need funds to pay for medical treatment. They were asking for a loan, but I am never going to do that with someone I do not know well. They hassled me on Discord, so I gave them a few votes and so did others. It seems some did lend them money that has not been paid back. @tinabrezpike has done a deep dive on this as a warning to us all of the risks. It may be that their needs were real, but if you promise to pay money back and do not then you lose trust.

On Hive you can see who has funds and that can make you a target for fraud. If you lose cryptocurrency then it may be impossible to get back. That is the risk we take in exchange for freedom.

@cwow2 has some tips on avoiding scams. I get email alerts from Which on scams in general and they do mention crypto sometimes. There will be other places you can get similar information that may be relevant to where you are.

The End

I was away at a drumming event last weekend, so I did not do my usual #followfriday post. I have done these pretty much since I started on this blockchain, but it is just for fun and I cannot promise to stick to a weekly schedule. I just hope that I can alert people to various news and help them make connections. Hive is my primary social platform and I hope it can be my main source of the latest information. We can post whatever we like here. The short-form options can be good to share what is happening in the world with links to appropriate articles.

Enjoy your weekend and Hive five!
